The Michigan State Spartans also need a feel good victory after getting beat up last week by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Michigan State Spartans have lost six of their last nine home games. Brian Lewerke is completing 62.9 percent of his passes for 751 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. Lewerke now has eight touchdown passes on 162 career pass attempts. Darrell Stewart Jr. and Felton Davis III have combined for 301 receiving yards and three touchdowns while Trishton Jackson has eight receptions. The Michigan State Spartans ground game is averaging 220.6 yards per contest, and Lewerke leads the way with 206 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Michigan State is allowing 20.7 points and 254 yards per game. Joe Bachie leads the Michigan State Spartans with 25 tackles, Chris Frey has 2.5 sacks and Tyson Smith has one interception.
The Hawkeyes are 17-6 ATS in their last 23 road games, 4-0 ATS in their last 4 conference games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on grass. The Spartans are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games, 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games in September and 2-6-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Hawkeyes are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Michigan State, 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 meetings and the under is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings.
The road team has won the last four meetings between Iowa and Michigan State, and five of the last six. It's going to be interesting to see how Iowa picks itself up after such a heartbreaking loss, one that could carry over to this contest. Remember, these are kids, and coming back with high energy, especially on the road, can be tough after having a win ripped out of your hands. Michigan State has some questions to answer after losing to Notre Dame thanks to countless turnovers and questionable playcalls. There's question marks for both teams, but I'm leaning to Michigan State in this ball game because they're at home and I give the Spartans the edge on defense as well. I also have concerns about Iowa's energy, as it's not easy to win in East Lansing, and it's even tougher when guys are still thinking about what could have been. I'll take Sparty by a touchdown.
