Down at BB&T Field in Winston-Salem on Saturday, the Florida State Seminoles and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons will be meeting up in college football action.
Florida State is sitting at 0-2 so far following a loss to Alabama, a canceled game versus UL Monroe and a loss to NC State 27-21. In that Wolfpack game, Seminoles QB James Blackman had a 22-of-38 line for 278 yards and one TD, while Cam Akers led the rush on 12 carries for 56 yards. Auden Tate had a nice outing for Florida State with his nine receptions for 138 yards and a score.

On the year, Blackman has 278 yards and the one score, and Akers is the top Seminoles rusher on 22 carries and 86 yards. Tate is far and away the lead receiver for Florida State with his 11 receptions for 179 yards and two scores.
Over on the Wake Forest side, they’re currently 4-0 so far following wins over Presbyterian, Boston College, Utah State and Appalachian State. In that 20-19 Appalachian State win, Wake Forest QB John Wolford posted a 14-of-27 line for 176 yards and two TDs, while also leading the team in rushing on 13 carries and 77 yards. Scotty Washington was the top Deacons receiver with 79 yards on four grabs.
This season so far, Wolford has 676 yards and eight touchdowns, and is also the top Wake Forest rusher overall on 47 carries for 269 yards and three scores. Greg Dortch is the leading Demon Deacons receiver on 20 catches for 242 yards and five touchdowns.
Florida State is 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following an ATS loss and 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games versus a team with a winning home record. The Seminoles are also 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight-up loss.
Meanwhile, the Demon Deacons are 6-0 ATS in their last six games following an ATS loss and 6-1 ATS in their last seven conference games. Wake Forest is also 5-1 ATS in their last six home games and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
We’ve only seen Florida State a couple of times this year (with one being a predetermined loss to Alabama), so it’s hard to get a sense of what they’re doing. Tate has been stellar, but we can’t exactly say that about the QB situation or the tepid running game (2.7 YPC as a team). As for Wake Forest, they’ve been great through the early-going this year, but did give up 372 pass yards, 122 rush yards and a pair of touchdowns to Appalachian State, whom they should have beaten handily. Still, I think Wake Forest holds all the cards here and I’ll take the Demon Deacons to cover.
