Over at the Carrier Dome on Saturday, the Pittsburgh Panthers will be taking on the Syracuse Orange in college football activity.
The Panthers are currently 2-3 on the year, with wins over Youngstown State and Rice sandwiched around losses to Penn State, Oklahoma State and Georgia Tech. In that Rice game, Pittsburgh QB Max Browne put up a 28-of-32 line for 410 yards and four touchdowns, while Jester Weah was the top receiver on five catches, 137 yards and a TD.

So far this year, Browne has put up 836 yards with five scores and two touchdowns, while Qadree Ollison is the top Panthers rusher on 221 yards and three TDs from 57 carries. Rafael Araujo-Lopes is the lead Pittsburgh receiver on his 19 catches, 235 yards and one score.
Over on the Syracuse side, they’re 2-3 as well, beating Central Connecticut State and Central Michigan in the first three games, and recording losses to Middle Tennessee, LSU and NC State. In that Wolfpack game, Syracuse QB Eric Dungey went 30-of-47 for 385 yards, one score and a pick, while also leading the rush on 16 carries for 44 yards and two TDs.
On the season, Dungey has logged 1437 yards, seven touchdowns and four picks, also leading the Orange in rushing on 68 carries for 277 yards and seven scores. Syracuse’s top receiver is Steve Ishmael, with 51 catches for 632 yards and two touchdowns.
Pittsburgh is also 1-3-2 ATS in their last six road games versus a team with a losing home record and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five road games. The Panthers are also 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games overall and the over is 4-0 in their last four games in October.
Meanwhile, the Orange are 2-5 ATS versus a team with a losing record and 1-4 ATS in their last five home games. Syracuse is also 1-4 ATS in their last five games on field turf and the under is 7-0 in the Orange’s last seven home games.
Pittsburgh’s offense has sputtered quite a bit this season, with the lone exception being that Rice game, which was the first time they’ve broken 28 points on the season (and that came all the way back in Week 1). The Panthers’ ground game is averaging just 3.1 YPC, and Weah hasn’t been as big a factor as the team needs him to be. Syracuse, meanwhile, is very top-heavy statistically, with Ishmael and Ervin Philips getting a ridiculous percentage of work compared to the rest of the team. Furthermore, no one besides Dungey is doing much on the ground for the Orange, as Dontae Strickland is averaging only 2.7 YPC. Still, Syracuse has a good amount of talent on offense and should be able to hang a lot of points here. I’ll take the Orange for a cover.
