Week seven college football comes to Waldo Stadium when the Akron Zips pay a visit to the Western Michigan Broncos.
The Akron Zips head out on the road to oppose the Western Michigan Broncos in week seven. Akron posted back to back victories after upending the visiting Ball State Cardinals on Saturday that evened their record at 3-3. The Zips were led by the defensive side of the football with both teams finishing at around 380 yards but with the Cardinals throwing three interceptions including a 35 yard pick six from John Lako. Akron tried to run on occasion but found only sporadic success with Delton Sands and Manny Morgan combining for 95 yards on 14 carries with Sands scoring. Quarterback Thomas Woodson gave the Zips a mistake free passing attack as he connected on 17-30 for 211 yards and a pair of touchdowns. AJ Coney was Akron’s top receiver with six catches for 90 yards while Austin Wolf and Kwadarrius Smith caught TD passes.
The Western Michigan Broncos host the Akron Zips with a 5th straight win in their sights. Western Michigan comes in off of a seven overtime 71-68 marathon win at the Buffalo Bulls that upped their record to 4-2. WMU was outgained 683-645 with the Bulls throwing for nearly 600 yards while both squads committed two turnovers each. The Broncos were balanced on the attack with quarterback Jon Wassink connecting on 23-29 for 256 yards for 256 yards and five touchdowns along with an interception. Jarvion Franklin led the Broncos on the ground with 176 yards and three touchdowns on 37 touches while also catching a 20 yard scoring pass. LeVante Bellamy gave Western Michigan more explosiveness on the ground with 131 yards on eleven carries with a trip to the endzone. D’Wayne Eskridge caught four balls for 97 yards and a TD while Donnie Ernsberger gave the Broncos four catches for 52 yards and another two scores. `
