Down at Jerry Richardson Stadium on Saturday, the UAB Blazers will be taking on the Charlotte 49ers in college football action.
UAB comes into this game with a 4-2 record so far, losing to Ball State and North Texas but otherwise beating Alabama A&M, Coastal Carolina, LA Tech and Middle Tennessee. In that Middle Tennessee game, Blazers QB AJ Erdely posted 174 yards, a TD and a pick, while Spencer brown had 31 carries for 167 yards and a score.
On the season so far, Erdely has 1105 yards, seven scores and two INTs, and Brown leads the Blazers in rushing with 113 carries for 626 yards and six scores. Tops in receiving for UAB is Andre Wilson, with 24 catches for 402 yards and four touchdowns.
Over on the Charlotte side, they’re 0-7 on the year, losing in succession to Eastern Michigan, Kansas State, NC A&T, Georgia State, FIU, Marshall and Western Kentucky. In that most recent game, 49ers QB Brooks Barden had just 61 yards and a pick on 9-of-18 passing, while Aaron McAllister put up 22 carries for 157 yards and two scores.
So far this year, Barden has a 11-of-24 line for 86 yards, zero TDs and two picks, and Benny LeMay leads the 49ers in rushing with 77 carries for 488 yards. Workpeh Kofa is the top Charlotte receiver with 19 catches for 260 yards and a touchdown.
The Blazers are 5-0 ATS in their last five conference games and 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall. UAB is also 4-1 ATS in their last five games following an ATS win and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games on turf.
Meanwhile, the 49ers are 4-1 ATS in their last five games in October and 1-4 ATS in their last five home games. Charlotte is also 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last six games following an ATS loss.
After a tough loss at North Texas, UAB has bagged a couple of squeakers, winning by just three combined points in their last two games. Charlotte, meanwhile, is just messy in every sense of the word. Having a decent running game doesn’t mean much when you’re getting beaten 45-14, as was the case with Western Kentucky. All things considered, the line is thin enough that this should be an easy UAB win and cover.
