The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks go toe-to-toe with the Idaho Vandals in week 9 college football action from the Sun Belt conference.
The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks will look to bounce back after dropping back-to-back conference matchups, including a 33-23 loss to South Alabama last time out. Caleb Evans threw for 179 yards and an interception on 14 of 23 passing while also rushing for 90 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Ben Luckett led the team with 91 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns on 11 carries. RJ Turner led the team with 69 receiving yards, while Marcus Green caught a team-high 6 passes in the loss. Defensively, a Corey Straughter interception was the lone highlight as the Warhawks gave up 549 yards of total offense in the loss.
The Idaho Vandals will be looking to snap a 3-game losing skid of their own, including ending up on the wrong side of a 68-21 rout at the hands of non-conference foe Missouri in their last outing. Matt Linehan and Mason Petrino combined to throw for 197 yards and 3 touchdowns on 22 of 36 passing. Aaron Duckworth led the team with 74 rushing yards on 13 carries, while Alfonso Onunwor caught a team-high 8 passes for 89 yards. David Ungerer caught 4 passes for 58 yards and a pair of TD passes, while Kaden Elliss added a TD grab of his own in the blowout. Elliss also logged a sack on defense, while Armond Hawkins added an INT as Idaho allowed Mizzou to put up 658 yards of total offense despite holding the ball for just over 24 minutes in the game.
Louisiana-Monroe is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games following a loss while the over is 13-3 in their last 16 games against a team with a losing record. Idaho is 9-1 ATS in their last 10 conference games and 11-3-1 ATS in their last 15 games overall while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 home games. Louisiana-Monroe is 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
Idaho may have had the bulk of the success in this matchup and within the conference against the spread, but I’m not about to lay points with a team that just got blown out by 47 points in their last outing. Even though Missouri is a power conference team, they’re not a very good one and ULM may have defensive issues, but they can at least put points on the board. I think the Warhawks and the points are the better side here and that’s where I will lean.
