The Illinois Fighting Illini and Purdue Boilermakers meet Saturday in college football action at the Ross-Ade Stadium.
The Illinois Fighting Illini could use a feel good victory here to snap a six-game losing streak. The Illinois Fighting Illini have lost six straight road games. Jeff George, Jr. is completing 53.4 percent of his passes for 1,001 yards, four touchdowns and seven interceptions. George has three touchdown passes and two interceptions in his last three games. Ricky Smalling and Mike Dudek have combined for 631 receiving yards and three touchdowns while Malik Turner has 25 receptions. The Illinois Fighting Illini ground game is averaging 120.6 yards per contest, and Mike Epstein leads the way with 346 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Illinois is allowing 28.9 points and 396.1 yards per game. Del'Shawn Phillips leads the Illinois Fighting Illini with 59 tackles, Bobby Roundtree has three sacks and Bennett Williams has two interceptions.
The Purdue Boilermakers also need a win here after losing four of their last five games. The Purdue Boilermakers have lost six of their last eight home games. David Blough is completing 64.7 percent of his passes for 909 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions. Blough has at least one touchdown pass in six of his last seven games. Jackson Anthrop and Anthony Mahoungou have combined for 634 receiving yards and seven touchdowns while Cole Herdman has 12 receptions. The Purdue Boilermakers ground game is averaging 153.1 yards per contest, and D.J. Knox leads the way with 302 yards on 50 carries. Defensively, Purdue is allowing 20 points and 382 yards per game. Ja'Whaun Bentley leads the Purdue Boilermakers with 62 tackles, Markus Bailey has four sacks and Kamal Hardy has one interception.
The Fighting Illini are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games, 2-6 ATS in their last 8 conference games and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Boilermakers are 5-13 ATS in their last 18 home games, 3-7-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games following a ATS loss. The underdog is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings and the under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Purdue.
Purdue has cooled off drastically since its strong start, but a lot of the Boilermakers losses recently have come down to the wire. Purdue's last three games have been decided by a combined 11 points, so this is a squad that could easily have more victories and possibly be competing for a trip to the Big Ten Championship with a bounce here or a bounce there. On the flipside, Illinois continues to struggle on both sides of the ball and have played its worse ball by far on the road. If Purdue is going to make a late push for a bowl game and kind of right the ship here, this is a must-win. I like the Boilermakers to cruise to a decent home win by double digits.
