We have some SEC conference action on the gridiron as the #19 Auburn Tigers take on the Texas A&M Aggies from College Station on Saturday afternoon.
The #19 Auburn Tigers will look for another win to climb the top-25 after their bye week last week, but took a step in the right direction, improving to 6-2 this season, including 4-1 in SEC play following a 52-20 destruction of Arkansas in their last outing. Jarrett Stidham threw for 218 yards and an interception on 19 of 28 passing, while Ryan Davis and Malik Willis combined for throw for 66 yards with a passing touchdown each. Kamryn Pettway led Auburn with 90 rushing yards and 3 TDs on 11 carries, while Kerryon Johnson added 63 yards and a score of his own on 21 carries while Stidham added a rushing touchdown as well. Darius Slayton led the Tigers with 146 receiving yards and a touchdown on 4 catches, while Ryan Davis caught a team-high 8 passes for 63 yards and Devan Barrett caught a touchdown pass of his own in the win. Defensively, Auburn combined for 5 sacks and 4 forced fumbles, 3 of which were recovered, all while holding Arkansas to just 334 yards of total offense and a 5 for 16 mark on 3rd down in the Tigers’ win.
The Texas A&M Aggies will look to rebound after falling to 5-3 and 3-2 in SEC play following a 35-14 beatdown at the hands of Mississippi State last time out. Nick Starkel and Kellen Mond combined to throw for 189 yards, a touchdown and 3 interceptions on 16 of 41 passing, while the Aggies ground attack combined to rack up 96 rushing yards on 28 carries as a team, with Keith Ford adding a rushing score for the Aggies. Camron Buckley hauled in a pair of passes for 88 yards and a touchdown, while Christian Kirk led the team with 5 catches for 33 yards in the loss. Texas A&M’s defense combined for a pair of sacks and an interception, holding Mississippi State to 369 yards of total offense, but the Aggies were dominated in the time of possession battle, giving up over 36 minutes of ball time to the Bulldogs in the loss.
Auburn is 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 conference games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win. Texas A&M is 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 conference games and 2-15 ATS in their last 17 games following a loss while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. The road team is 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
Last week was a big game for Texas A&M and they came out flat and it showed. Auburn knows they need to run the table if they have any hope of making the SEC title game, or to at least have a shot at a big bowl game come bowl season. The Aggies have also been horrendous ATS when it comes to following up a loss, so considering that the road team has had all of the success as of late in this matchup, I’ll side with Auburn here.
