The Old Dominion Monarchs go on the road to face the Florida International Golden Panthers in CUSA college football.
The Old Dominion Monarchs are trying to save their season when the team visits the Florida International Golden Panthers. Old Dominion snapped a six game slide with a 6-0 win versus the visiting Charlotte 49ers as a ten point favorite on Saturday. The Monarchs managed a pair of field goals in the opening quarter and the third quarter and missed out on points on several other occasions.
ODU led the yardage battle 326-231 with a 20-12 advantage on first downs which led to 39+ minutes of possession. Monarchs quarterback Steven Williams moved the chains a bit on 15-25 for 153 yards with Blake LaRussa going 5-5 for 25 yards. Travis Fulgham and Isaiah Harper combined for ten receptions for 93 yards to pace the ODU receiving corps while Ray Lawry led the rushing attack with 98 yards on 25 carries.
The Florida International Golden Panthers have come from nowhere to win six of seven and stay in the CUSA title hunt. Florida International comes in off of a 14-7 victory versus the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners as a touchdown underdog at home. This was an ugly contest which was perfect for the Golden Panthers who outgained the Roadrunners 315-261 with three turnovers while recovering a pair of fumbles.
Shawndarrius Phillips was the only FIU runner of note with 45 yards on eleven carries so the offense turned to the pass with success. Florida International quarterback Alex McGough completed 18-25 for 215 yards and a pair of touchdowns and an interception. Phillips caught an 18 yard TD while Thomas Owens recorded eight receptions for 72 yards and a 13 yard score.
Over is 6-0 in Old Dominion last 6 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game and Old Dominion are 1-7-1 ATS in their last 9 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game and Old Dominion are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. Over is 5-0-1 in FIU last 6 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game and FIU are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games in November and FIU are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games after allowing less than 275 total yards in their previous game.
This comes down to whether Florida International can limit mistakes and contain the Old Dominion offense and I think they can…
