We have some SEC action down in Nashville as the Vanderbilt Commodores host the Kentucky Wildcats in a college football matchup.
The Kentucky Wildcats will look to bounce back after falling to Ole Miss in their last outing by a final score of 37-34 to fall to 6-3 this season, including 3-3 in SEC play. Stephen Johnson threw for 204 yards and a touchdown on 19 of 24 passing, while Benny Snell Jr. led the Wildcats on the ground with 176 rushing yards and 3 TDs on 26 carries. C.J. Conrad led Kentucky’s receiving corps with 5 catches for 75 yards and a touchdown. The Wildcats’ defense combined for 3 sacks but gave up 473 yards of total offense to the Rebels, despite Kentucky having over 36 minutes of possession in the loss.
The Vanderbilt Commodores will look to build some momentum after snapping a 5 game losing streak thanks to a 31-17 win over Western Kentucky last time out. Kyle Shurmur threw for 230 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 14 of 21 passing, while Ralph Webb led the ‘Dores on the ground with 23 carries for 104 yards and a touchdown. Trent Sherfield’s lone rush went 45 yards for a rushing TD as well, while also leading Vandy’s receiving group with 5 catches for 82 yards and a TD grab. Kalija Lipscomb added 3 catches for 43 yards, while Trey Ellis added a 31-yard touchdown reception for Vanderbilt in the win. Vandy’s defense combined for 6 sacks and an interception, all while giving up 349 yards of total offense and holding the Hilltoppers to negative team rushing yardage on the day.
Kentucky is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 conference games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record. Vanderbilt is 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games while the over is 8-2 in their last 10 home games against a team with a winning road record. The favorite is 7-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
I know Kentucky is just 2-7 ATS this season and just took one on the chin at home against an Ole Miss team they probably should have defeated. However, Vanderbilt is still winless in conference play, and haven’t really done anything to deserve being a favorite here, even at home. We are getting points with the better team, which is usually a solid way to make some cash, so I’ll take the points with Kentucky in a game that I have the Wildcats winning outright.
