We have some non-conference action on the gridiron as the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks square off against the Auburn Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks will look to pull off the upset for a 2nd week in a row after taking down Appalachian State by a final score of 52-45 in their last outing to improve to 4-5 this season. Caleb Evans threw for 356 yardsm 3 touchdowns and an interception on 24 of 32 passing, while also rushing for a pair of touchdowns with 47 rushing yards on 9 carries. Derrick Gore led ULM with 18 carries for 103 yards and a touchdown as well in the win. RJ Turner caught a team-high 6 passes for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Brian Williams added 6 catches of his own for 66 yards and Marcus Green added 4 receptions for 62 yards and a touchdown as well. On defense, the Warhawks combined for 3 sacks but still gave up 508 yards of total offense and 25 first downs in the shootout win.

The Auburn Tigers will look to keep their momentum going after their biggest win of the season, a 40-17 victory over then top-ranked Georgia to improve to 8-2 this season, including a 6-1 record in the SEC to keep pace with Alabama. Jarrett Stidham threw for 214 yards and 3 touchdowns on 16 of 23 passing, while rushing for a 4th score as Kerryon Johnson racked up 167 yards on 32 carries. Johnson also added a receiving touchdown with 66 yards and a pair of receptions out of the backfield. Ryan Davis recorded a team-high 4 catches for 55 yards and a touchdown, while Darius Slayton added a TD grab of his own as well. The Tigers defense was phenomenal, completely shutting down the Georgia offense, combining for 4 sacks and a forced fumble that the Tigers also recovered, all while holding the Bulldogs to 230 yards of total offense and just 46 rushing yards by the end of the game.
Louisiana-Monroe is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 road games against a team with a winning home record and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games while the over is 7-0 in their last 7 games following a win. Auburn is 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games against a team with a losing record and 6-2-2 ATS in their last 10 home games while the over is 7-0 in their last 7 games overall. ULM is 2-5 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
Here’s where my dilemma lies. You have Auburn who could be primed for a letdown after an emotional win over Georgia, possibly looking ahead to next week’s game against Alabama which is, for all intents and purposes, for a spot in the SEC championship game. However, Auburn is 9-0 all time against ULM, and if you take away the 3-point win from 2012, 5 of Auburn’s last 6 wins in this series have been by a combined score of 248-17. Ouch. I’ll lay the points with Auburn here in the hopes that they use this game as a tune-up for Bama next weekend.
