College football comes to Cajun Field where the New Mexico State Aggies battle the UL Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns.
The New Mexico State Aggies visit the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns needing a win to keep their Bowl hopes alive. New Mexico State have won two of three after a 45-35 win at the Texas State Bobcats as a nine point favorite. New Mexico State had no problem moving the football with 563 yards but holding on to the ball was a different thing with four turnovers. The Aggies rolled to 622 yards and lost a pair of fumbles and committed eight penalties so this wasn’t a clean game.

NMSU quarterback Tyler Rogers was explosive on 29-46 and three touchdowns with Nick Jeanty going 2-3 for 29 yards and another score. Jaleel Scott led the Aggies receiving corps with eight receptions for 130 yards and a 22 yards scoring catch. New Mexico State didn’t run often but Larry Rose III was the only runner of consequence with 81 yards on 19 totes and a one yard scoring run.
The Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns are in the same boat as New Mexico State in that the team needs to keep winning to secure a Bowl berth. Louisiana-Lafayette has dropped two of three after a 50-22 defeat at the Ole Miss Rebels as a 23 point underdog. Ole Miss took a 35-10 lead in to the half and never looked back behind 641 yards with a prolific passing attack racking up 418 yards. The Ragin’ Cajuns totaled 427 yards with a solid rushing attack leading the way.
Jordan Davis ran four times for 52 yards and a pair of touchdowns with Rhyheem Malone rushing once for 52 yards. UL Lafayette quarterback Levi Lewis connected on 14-26 for 166 yards with Davis completing 4-9 for 33 yards. Ja’Marcus Bradley was the top Ragin’ Cajuns receiving option with 105 yards on seven receptions. The ULL return game enjoyed some success but all the positives were overshadowed by the Rebels passing.

UL Lafayette is not an easy team to back because neither side of the football is dependable. I’ll back the points because I don’t like the Aggies laying points on the road…
