The marquee college football matchup on Saturday evening pits the Georgia Bulldogs up against the Auburn Tigers in the SEC Championship game from Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The Georgia Bulldogs come into this one 11-1, tops in the SEC East after back-to-back wins to close out the season, including a 38-7 victory over Georgia Tech in their regular season finale. Jake Fromm threw for 224 yards and 2 touchdowns on 12 of 16 passing, while Sony Michel led the team with 13 carries for 85 yards and a touchdown. Nick Chubb came 2nd with 53 yards and a touchdown, along with 37 yards and a TD from D’Andre Swift. Ahkil Crumpton led the way with 78 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Javon Wims was right behind with a team-high 5 catches for 77 yards and a score of his own. The Bulldogs’ defense combined for a sack and an interception, while suffocating the Georgia Tech offense to the tune of 226 yards of total offense in the win.

The Auburn Tigers reached the championship with a 10-2 record and the SEC West crown after a thrilling 26-14 win over arch rival Alabama in the Iron Bowl. Jarrett Stidham threw for 237 yards on 21 of 28 passing, while also rushing for 51 yards and a touchdown. Kerryon Johnson rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries before leaving the game due to injury. Johnson also threw for a touchdown, connecting with Nate Craig-Myers. Ryan Davis far and away led Auburn with 11 catches for 139 yards, while Darius Slayton and the aforementioned Johnson each recorded 3 receptions in the win. Defensively, Auburn combined for a pair of sacks and 3 forced fumbles, one of which was recovered, all while giving up just 314 yards of total offense and just under 24 minutes of possession to the Tide in the win.
Georgia is 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 conference matchups while the under is 17-7 in their last 24 games following a win. Auburn is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 conference games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 7-2 in their last 9 games overall. Georgia is 5-2 ATS in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.
I don’t think the significance of Kerryon Johnson to the Tigers in this matchup can be understated. He didn’t score in Auburn’s 40-17 win over Georgia a few weeks ago, but je rushed for 167 yards. All signs have pointed to Johnson being ready to go for this one, but even then, Johnson will be less than 100%, despite what he thinks or says. Kam Martin is banged up, as is Kamryn Pettway. That means Auburn could be down to their 4th string running back. That's not good. Granted, Stidham is the better quarterback here, but both of Auburn's losses have come on the road in raucous environments, and that's what I think Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be on Saturday. I expect somewhat of a home field to be the difference for Georgia, as the Bulldogs win and make the college football playoff picture much more interesting.
