We have some non-conference action on tap as the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks duke it out with the Florida State Seminoles in a college football matchup on Saturday afternoon.
The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks will try to finish their season on a high-note after dropping back-to-back games, including a 67-50 loss to Arkansas State in their last outing to fall to 4-7 this season. Caleb Evans threw for 454 yards, 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on 21 of 37 passing while also leading the team in rushing with 61 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 17 carries. The Warhawks had a pair of 100-yard receivers with Marcus Green adding 8 catches for 193 yards and a touchdown, while RJ Turner hauled in 3 passes for 111 yards and a score. D’Marius Gillespie and Brian Williams each added a TD grab of their own in the losing effort. Defensively, the Warhawks combined for a pair of sacks and an interception, but that was about all the defense that was played as the Warhawks allowed a whopping 781 yards of total offense to the Red Wolves in the losing effort.
The Florida State Seminoles will try to become bowl eligible and climb to .500 to finish the year after a 38-22 win over Florida last time out brought FSU to 5-6 this season. James Blackmon threw for 128 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception on 10 of 21 passing, while Jacques Patrick led the team in rushing with 67 yards on 15 carries and Cam Akers chipped in a touchdown run in the win. Ermon Lane’s lone catch gave him the team-lead with 39 receiving yards, while Nyqwan Murray and Auden Tate each logged a touchdown catch in the winning effort. The Seminoles’ d combined for 5 sacks, a pair of picks from Levonta Taylor including an 18-yard pick-six, and a fumble return for a touchdown from James Pugh. All while holding the Gators to 280 yards of total offense and a 6 for 16 mark on 3rd down in the win.
Louisiana-Monroe is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road games and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games following a loss while the over is 13-3 in their last 16 games against a team with a losing record. Florida State is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games while the under is 7-3-1 in their last 11 games overall.
Louisiana-Monroe has been lighting up the scoreboard lately, but the problem is that they can’t keep points off of the board, giving up 42 or more in 4 of their last 6 games and 31 in each of those 6. And that’s in the Sun Belt. Florida State is a whole different ball of wax, even if they’re having a down year. The Seminoles will wanna win this one big for their seniors and need this one to become eligible for a bowl game, so I’ll lay the points with Florida State here.
