Buffalo Bulls host the Delaware State Hornets in the college football opener for both squads.
The Delaware State Hornets have been a non-factor in the college football world with just three wins in three years. Delaware State was 2-9 in 2017 and were outscored 38-14 so first year head coach Rod Milstead has a rebuilding situation on his hands.

Keenan Black and Jack McDaniels split time at quarterback for the Hornets and both are back with Black the likely starter after throwing for 1,169 yards and 13 scores a year ago. Trey Gross has a high ceiling at receiver for DSU after catching 27 passes for 428 yards and seven touchdowns as a freshman. Mike Waters gives Delaware State a potential 1,000 yard rusher after totaling 820 on 169 carries in 2016 and suffering through injuries a year ago.
The Buffalo Bulls look to build on a 6-6 record from a season ago where the team outscored opponents 29-26 behind a pass heavy offense that averaged over 290 yards. The Bulls look to QB Tyree Jackson to remain healthy for the offense to be successful while receiver Anthony Johnson is back after hauling in 76 receptions for 1,356 yards.
Jonathan Hawkins and Emmanuel Reed pace the UB rushing attack along with Jackson that will run behind three returning starters along the offensive line. Buffalo gets most of their defense back from 2017 but safety is a concern with both starters gone in a secondary that needs to be more effective against the pass.
Delaware State are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 road games and are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games in September. Buffalo are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 home games and Buffalo are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games and Buffalo are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games in September.
With a new head coach in place Delaware State will be better but still no competition for Buffalo but I’ll still take the points…
