The Iowa State Cyclones welcome the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in their college football season opener.
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits finished 2017 at 11-3 behind an explosive offense that averaged over 37 points. South Dakota State lost their top running back receiver and tight end with the latter two in the NFL. The Jackrabbits get back Taryn Christion at quarterback with Isaac Wallace and Mikey Daniel take over the ground game.
Marquise Lewis becomes the top receiving option with WR Jake Wieneke and TE Dallas Goedert now playing on Sunday’s. The SDSU defense returns seven starters and the expectations are for another solid season.
The Iowa State Cyclones were 8-5 and outscored the opposition 29-21 on the way to a Bowl appearance. Iowa State received good news with quarterback Kyle Kempt getting a 6th year of eligibility. The Cyclones lose WR Allen Lazard but return Hakeem Butler, Matt Eaton, Deshaunte Jones and tight end Chase Allen.
The ISU ground game features David Montgomery who brings back 1,146 rushing yards and gets to run behind an offensive line that gets back four starters. The Cyclones defense looks to be solid once again with a productive and deep line leading the way.
