The Texas Longhorns and Maryland Terrapins meet Saturday in college football action at FedExField.
The Texas Longhorns won seven games in the first year under coach Tom Herman, which was a decent debut, but this crazy fanbase is sure to expect more. Texas has its quarterback in Sam Ehlinger, who showed flashes last season and has talent but has to take better care of the football. Collin Johnson and Lil' Jordan Humphrey are back as the top two receivers for the Longhorns and freshman running back Keaontay Ingram could be the difference maker this season to take this offense to the next level. Defensively, Texas lost a ton of key contributors from an impressive unit, but the Longhorns did recruit very well on that side of the ball and still has one of the better defensive ends in the country in Breckyn Hager. Texas will be inexperienced on defense in spots, but Todd Orlando proved last year that he’s capable of building a monster with what he’s given. The Texas Longhorns have won four of their last six season openers.

The Maryland Terrapins have won a combined 13 games the last three years and hope this is the season D.J. Durkin can turn things around. The good news for the Terps is that all of the injuries over the years have developed experienced players, particularly at quarterback where they can pick from Tyrrell Pigrome and Kasim Hill. Ty Johnson and Lorenzo Harrison is an explosive running back duo and the offensive line returns all five starters from a year ago. If healthy for once, Maryland should have an offense that will surprise some folks in the Big Ten this season. Defensively, the return of pass rusher Jesse Aniebonam is massive, as he missed all of last season but did have nine sacks back in 2016. There’s also some thumpers on the back end of this defense in Antoine Brooks and Darnell Savage. The Maryland Terrapins have had some horrible injury luck over the years, but there’s some serious talent on this football team. While it may not be saying much, don’t be shocked if Maryland has its best season since joining the Big Ten.
The Longhorns are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 neutral site games, 6-2 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games and 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 games overall. The Terrapins are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on grass and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The over is 7-2 in Terrapins last 9 games overall and the under is 41-17 in Longhorns last 58 games overall.
I know we've heard it quite a bit over the last decade, but this should be the year the Texas Longhorns break out of this funk and compete for something big. The Longhorns have difference makers on both sides of the ball and Herman now has his feet wet with the program. It's time to start winning some games and compeiting for a Big 12 title and possibly a CFB playoff spot. The Maryland Terrapins may be as talented as they've been in years, but off the field issues and questions with their coach make it hard to trust this team. What should be an exciting time for the Terps has the black could over it, and we could see players who have a hard time focusing. I wouldn't be shocked if Texas just steamrolls Maryland from start to finish.
