David Pindell was pretty busy for the Huskies in their opening game, going 27-of-41 for 266 yards, one TD and one pick. Pindell also led Connecticut in rushing with 22 carries for 157 yards and another score.
As for Boise State, they got a win in their first game, taking out the Troy Trojans 56-20. The Broncos started out relatively slow with a 14-7 first quarter, then rattled off 21 unanswered points in the second.
Boise State QB Brett Rypien had a great game in the opener with a 20-of-28 line for 305 yards and four touchdowns. Alexander Mattison led the Broncos’ rushing attack with 56 yards and a TD while Sean Modster posted seven catches for 167 yards and two scores.
The Huskies are 15-35-1 ATS in their last 51 games overall and 10-25-1 ATS in their last 36 road games. Upon is 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 following an ATS loss and 5-20-2 ATS in their last 27 games in September.
Meanwhile, the Broncos are 5-1 ATS in their last six following a straight-up win and 5-1 ATS in their last six non-conference games. Boise State is also 6-2 ATS in their last eight games overall and 3-13 ATS in their last 16 home games.
It’s tough to figure out what to expect from Connecticut this year, as they hit the wall immediately against a tough team in their first game. The early returns on Pindell look good, and we’ll see who else steps up to support him. As for Boise, they came out of the gate strong and look like they’ll have a lot of weapons this season. I’m just going to stick with the Broncos here.
