Washington vs. North Dakota - 9/8/18 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The 6th ranked Washington Huskies fell to 0-1 on the young season after being defeated by the 9th ranked Auburn Tigers, 21-16, this past Saturday. Washington had plenty of chances to secure the victory as they looked like the better team in the 2nd half however, couldn’t pull off the victory as they continued to fail to put points on the board when they reached the red zone. Washington was outgained by Auburn by a 420-398 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 2-0 margin. Leading the way for the Huskies was Jake Browning who completed 18 of 32 passes for 296 yards, 1 TD, and an INT. WR Aaron Fuller had a monster game as he had 133 receiving yards on 7 carries. RB Myles Gaskin was for the most part contained by the strong Auburn defense as the star RB finished the game with 75 yards on 17 carries. Washington, despite the setback, still will have one of the best overall teams in the country this season. Offensively, Washington averaged 36.2 points per game on 405.5 total yards per game (183.2 rushing yds/g; 222.2 passing yds/g) and return two of their best pieces in QB Jake Browning and RB Myles Gaskin. The Huskies have to be also encouraged by the offensive performances of Salvon Ahmed (7 carries; 36 yards) and WR Aaron Fuller who both looked good taking on bigger roles this season. Defensively, Washington held their opponents to an average of 16.1 ppg on 298.0 total yards per game (100.8 rushing yds/g; 197.2 passing yds/g). The Huskies defense returned 9 starters from last year’s team and is led by DL Greg Gaines, LB Ben Burr-Kirven, CB Byron Murphy, and S Taylor Rapp.

Trends will be updated once the line is released.

North Dakota has a nice start to their season and should have a decent season with some solid experience on the offensive end of the ball, however, the Fighting Hawks just don’t have the talent level to hang around with a talented Washington team that will be looking to take out some their frustrations at home after their loss against Auburn last weekend. Washington will be putting up big point totals the rest of the season in hopes to impress the selection committee and although I know this is going to be a huge number if they even release anything, my initial thoughts are with the Huskies.
