The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and the #16 Mississippi State Bulldogs square off in college football action from Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field in Starkville, MS on Saturday night.

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns will come into this game rested after a bye week to prepare after starting the year with a 49-17 win over Grambling State. Mississippi State vs. Louisiana-Lafayette - 9/15/18 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Scott Sewell-USA TODAY Sports

The Mississippi State Bulldogs will look to stay hot after improving to 2-0 with a 31-10 win over Kansas State in their last outing. Nick Fitzgerald threw for 154 yards on 11 of 27 passing with 2 touchdowns and an interception while outrushing that mark himself with 159 yards on 19 carries. Kylin Hill led Mississippi State with 17 carries for a whopping 211 yards and 2 touchdowns while logging a 3rd touchdown as a receiver and Austin Williams added a TD grab of his own in the winning effort. Stephen Guidry also led the Bulldogs in receiving with 42 receiving yards with a pair of receptions. Defensively, the Bulldogs combined for 4 sacks, including one from Erroll Thompson who also recorded an interception while sharing the team lead in tackles with Johnathan Abram, each of whom recorded 7 tackles in the win.

Louisiana is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall. Mississippi State is 23-5 ATS in their last 28 home games against a team with a winning road record and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall.

The Ragin’ Cajuns have had an extra week to prepare for this test, but I’m not sure any amount of time can prepare a team like Louisiana for the likes of Fitzgerald and Hill. I just don’t think the Cajuns will be able to keep up with the Bulldogs as Mississippi State is battle tested after going on the road in a tough environment in Kansas State and dominating the game from start to finish. I’ll lay the points with Mississippi State in this spot.
