North Texas vs. LA Tech - 9/29/18 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

The North Texas Mean Green stayed perfect on the season, improving to 4-0 on the year, after defeating the Liberty Flames, 47-7, this past Saturday. North Texas didn’t suffer a let down after destroying Arkansas on the road the previous week by a 44-17 margin and easily had this game in hand after the Mean Green took a 27-7 lead midway through the 3rd quarter. North Texas outgained Liberty by a 531-344 margin and won the turnover battle by a 1-0 margin. Leading the way for the Mean Green was RB Loren Easly who had 177 rushing yards and 2 TD’s on 27 carries. On the season, North Texas is averaging 48.8 ppg on 510.8 total yards per game (345.3 passing yds/g; 165.5 rushing yds/g). Offensively, North Texas has been led by Mason Fine who has completed 64.8% of his passes for 10 TD & 1 INT while averaging 332.0 passing yds/g. The top receivers for Fine and the Mean Green have been Rico Bussey Jr. (6.0 rec/g; 75.8 yds/g; 5 TD), Jalen Guyton (4.5 rec/g; 70.5 yds/g; 3 TD), and Jaelon Darden (4.3 rec/g; 60.8 yds/g; TD). Leading the way for the North Texas backfield has been Loren Easly (17.3 att/g; 92.0 yds/g; 3 TD) and DeAndre Torrey (7.5 att/g; 28.5 yds/g; 4 TD). Defensively, North Texas is holding their opponents to an average of 15.8 ppg on 308.0 total yards per game (209.0 passing yds/g; 99.0 rushing yds/g).

The Bulldogs are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Mean Green are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall.

Louisiana Tech didn’t have a great season last year, however, the Bulldogs should be one of the tougher teams in the C-USA this season led by their talented offense. North Texas has looked outstanding on both sides of the ball so far this season as they rank 17th in total offense and 20th in total defense. I think Louisiana Tech will find some success on the offensive end in this one, however, I don’t think it’s going to be enough as North Texas is playing outstanding football as of late and as they are very tough at home, I think North Texas does enough to cover this spread. Take North Texas to cover.
