The Marshall Thundering Herd will take on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in college football action on Saturday from Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.

Marshall comes into this game with a 2-1 record so far. The Herd started out with victories versus Miami (OH) 35-28 and Eastern Kentucky 32-16, then after a cancelled game versus South Carolina Marshall feel to NC State 37-20.

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

In the Wolfpack game, Marshall QB Isaiah Green put up 270 yards, one TD and two picks, and Tyler King led the rush on nine totes for 30 yards. Tops in receiving for the Herd was Keion Davis with six grabs for 99 yards.

Over on the Western Kentucky side, they’re sitting at 1-3 thus far. The Hilltoppers dropped their first three games 34-3 against Wisconsin, 31-28 versus Maine and 20-17 against Louisville before banging out a win 28-20 over Ball State this past Saturday.

In the Ball State game, WKU quarterback Steven Duncan did all the pass scoring on 94 yards and two TDs, and Joshua Samuel added a TD on the ground among his 19 carries for 91 yards. Lucky Jackson was the top Hilltoppers receiver with eight catches for 91 yards.

The Herd are 5-0 ATS in their last five road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five following an ATS loss. Marshall is 15-6-2 ATS in their last 23 in September and 1-5 ATS in their last six on turf.

Meanwhile, the Toppers are 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 in September. WKU is also 1-5 ATS in their last six after a straight-up win and 1-6 ATS versus a team with a winning record.

Marshall has performed pretty much up to expectations this season, with their lone blemish coming against a decent NC State team. Overall the offense has been performing pretty well, but they’re going to have to start getting consistent efforts from their playmakers.

As for Western Kentucky, they could very well be 3-1 this season if not for a couple of close losses to Maine and Louisville; it seems like they’re beginning to hit their stride, however. The Hilltoppers just need to put together a complete effort on both sides of the ball. This should be a pretty fun game to watch, and I like Western Kentucky to make it interesting.
