The UConn Huskies and Memphis Tigers meet Saturday in college football action at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.
The UConn Huskies look for their first road victory of the season to rebound from a brutal 1-4 start to the season. The UConn Huskies have lost 12 of their last 13 road games. David Pindell is completing 61.8 percent of his passes for 932 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions. Pindell and Marvin Washington have combined for nine touchdown passes and five interceptions this season. Kyle Buss and Aaron McLean have combined for 412 receiving yards and three touchdowns while Hergy Mayala has 18 receptions. The UConn Huskies ground game is averaging 177.2 yards per contest, and Pindell leads the way with 432 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, UConn is allowing 53.4 points and 663 yards per game. Tyler Coyle leads the UConn Huskies with 55 tackles, Kevon Jones has two sacks and Oneil Robinson has one interception.
The Memphis Tigers look to remain undefeated at home to build on their shaky 3-2 record. The Memphis Tigers have won 10 of their last 11 home games. Brady White is completing 66.7 percent of his passes for 1,310 yards, 14 touchdowns and one interception. White has two or more touchdown passes in four of his last five games. Damonte Coxie and Pop Williams have combined for 622 receiving yards and five touchdowns while Darrell Henderson has eight receptions. The Memphis Tigers ground game is averaging 253.8 yards per contest, and Henderson leads the way with 760 yards and nine touchdowns. Defensively, Memphis is allowing 26.6 points and 353 yards per game. Curtis Akins leads the Memphis Tigers with 36 tackles, Bryce Huff has five sacks and T.J. Carter has one interception.
The Huskies are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 conference games, 7-15 ATS in their last 22 games in October and 10-26-2 ATS in their last 38 road games. The Tigers are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games in October, 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The over is 14-6 in Tigers last 20 games overall and the under is 5-2 in Huskies last 7 conference games.
The UConn Huskies are a joke of a football team with a defense that's easily the worst in college football. Memphis should have its way with UConn, which is scary considering the Tigers have already topped 50 points three times this season. However, I'm not trying to lay this big of a number with a Memphis team that was blown out by Tulane as 14.5-point underdogs last week. Memphis can still get lazy on the defensive end at times and hasn't been great covering numbers recently. I'm not trying to back a brutal UConn side in this game, but I can't bring myself to eat big chalk with Memphis after what we saw last week. I wouldn't touch this game, but if forced to pick, I want the points in my pocket.
