The San Jose State Spartans and the San Diego State Aztecs will be meeting up on the college football circuit on Saturday from Qualcomm Stadium.

San Jose State enters this game with an 0-6 record on the year. In succession, the Spartans have fallen to UC Davis, Washington State, Oregon, Hawaii, Colorado State and Army.

In the Army game, San Jose State QB Montel Aaron posted 118 yards passing while Tyler Nevens led the rush with 43 yards from 11 carries. Thai Cottrell led the Spartans receivers on three grabs for 27 yards.

Over on the San Diego State side, they’re sitting at 5-1 so far. The Aztecs lost their opener to Stanford but have since taken out Sacramento State, Arizona State, Eastern Michigan, Boise State and Air Force.

In the Air Force game, San Diego State QB Ryan Agnew logged 213 yards with one TD and a pick, and Chase Jasmin put up 70 yards and a TD rushing. Fred Trevillion managed 94 yards from three grabs to lead the receivers.

The Spartans are 5-11-1 ATS in their last 17 overall and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games. San Jose State is also 1-3-1 ATS in their last five in October and 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 following an ATS loss.

Meanwhile, the Aztecs are 19-6-1 ATS versus a team with a losing record and 6-2 ATS in their last eight following an ATS loss. San Diego State is 34-15-2 ATS in their last 51 conference games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall.

San Jose State was eviscerated on the ground in the Army game, giving up five rushing touchdowns and positive yardage to a platoon of Knights players. The Spartans managed just three points, which was a major letdown after scoring 71 in the two weeks before.

As for San Diego State, they’re on a nice roll right now, but haven’t scored more than 23 points in any of their last three games and have won their last four by a touchdown or less.

I don’t in any way expect the Aztecs to lose this game, but with the thick line I’m tempted to give the Spartans some confidence.
