The Florida State Seminoles and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will link up for a college football showdown Saturday from Notre Dame Stadium.
Florida State comes in here with a 4-5 record so far. The Seminoles have beaten Samford, Northern IL, Louisville and Wake Forest but fallen to Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Miami (FL), Clemson and NC State.
In the Wolfpack game, Florida State QB James Blackman put up 421 yards with four TDs and one pick, and Cam Akers led the rush on 29 yards. Tamorrion Terry was the top Seminoles receiver with 142 yards and two touchdowns off five grabs.
Over on the Notre Dame side, they’re rolling at 9-0 this year. The Irish have taken out Michigan, Ball State, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Stanford, Virginia Tech, Pitt, Navy and Northwestern in succession this year.
In the Northwestern game, Notre Dame QB Ian Book logged 343 yards with two TDs and Dexter Williams led the rush with 56 yards and a score. Chase Claypool was the top receiver for the Irish on 130 yards from eight catches.
The Seminoles are 5-1 ATS in their last six non-conference games and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 in November. Florida State is 2-5-2 ATS in their last nine road games and 2-8-2 ATS versus a team with a winning record.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame is 4-1-1 ATS in their last six non-conference games and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six overall. The Irish are 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games and 7-20-1 ATS in their last 28 in November.
Florida State has given up 106 points across their last two games, but those were against ranked opponents and need to be taken with a proverbial grain of salt. Otherwise, the Seminoles have played teams pretty tight overall.
As for the Irish, it’s not looking like they’ll lose a game this year, but the team needs to focus here and not set their sights on the showdown with Syracuse on the 17th.
The Irish should win this game handily, but the line is thick enough that I think the Seminoles can sneak in there.
