The Virginia Tech Hokies and the Pittsburgh Panthers will match up in an ACC college football battle Saturday from Heinz Field.
Virginia Tech comes in here with a 4-4 record on the year, beating Florida State, W&M, Duke and UNC while falling to Old Dominion, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech and Boston College.
In the Eagles game, Virginia Tech QB Ryan Wills put up 281 yards, three TDs and a pick while also leading the rush on 49 yards. Dalton Keene was the top receiver for the Hokies with 65 yards.
Over on the Pittsburgh side, they’re sitting at 5-4 this year. The Panthers have fallen to Penn State, UNC, UCF and Notre Dame but otherwise taken out Albany, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, Duke and Virginia.
In the Virginia game, Pitt QB Kenny Pickett put up 61 yards passing but Darrin Hall did most of the work on 229 yards and three scores on the ground. Aaron Mathews’ lone 31-yard catch gave him the lead for the Panthers receivers.
The Hokies are 2-5 ATS in their last seven following an ATS loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five in November. Virginia Tech is 0-4 ATS in their last four overall and 0-4 ATS in the last four on grass.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are 4-0 in their last four overall and 6-1 ATS in their last seven conference games. Pitt is 4-1 ATS in their last five following an ATS win and 5-2 ATS in their last seven in November.
Virginia Tech has hit the skids over the last couple of games, as they simply weren’t equipped to deal with Georgia Tech and then they ran into a solid Boston College team the next week. Still, I like them to rebound and play well here.
As for Pitt, they’ve had a couple of rough games against good teams this year, but on the whole they look like a pretty solid program that’s on the upswing.
I like the Panthers to cover in this one, and it should be a fun game to watch.
