Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The UTSA Roadrunners lost their 3rd consecutive game and dropped to 3-6 (2-3 C-USA) on the season after being defeated by the UAB Blazers, 52-3, this past Saturday. UTSA has no answers on either end of the field for the Blazers and couldn’t fight back after UAB too a 28-3 lead early in the 2nd quarter. UTSA was outgained by UAB by a 668-220 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 2-1 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Roadrunners was WR Greg Campbell Jr. who had 62 receiving yards on 6 receptions. On the season, UTSA is averaging 15.8 ppg on 242.6 total yards per game (149.2 passing yds/g; 93.3 rushing yds/g). Offensively, UTSA has been led by QB Cordale Grundy who has completed 50.5% of his passes for 5 TD & 3 INT while averaging 109.9 passing yds/g. The top receivers for Grundy and the Roadrunners have been Greg Campbell Jr. (4.6 rec/g; 46.9 yds/g; 2 TD), Blaze Moorhead (2.1 rec/g; 23.3 yds/g; TD), and Tykee Ogle-Kellogg (1.2 rec/g; 14.8 yds/g; 2 TD). Leading the way for the Roadrunners backfield has been the duo of B.J. Daniels (9.0 att/g; 32.9 yds/g; 3 TD) and Jalen Rhodes (6.9 att/g; 23.9 yds/g; TD). Defensively, UTSA is allowing their opponents to average 31.3 ppg on 416.9 total yards per game (254.7 passing yds/g; 162.2 rushing yds/g).

The Golden Panthers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS loss and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight up loss. The Roadrunners are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 conference games and 0-8-1 ATS in their last 9 home games.

FIU has a bad 2nd half against FIU however, this is still a solid football team and I think the defense will be able to regain it’s confidence agianst a UTSA offense that ranks 128th in scoring offense and dead last in total offense. Coming into this season, UTSA was known for their defense however, as that has even struggled, I’m surprised that FIU is only favored by about 10 in this one and I’m jumping on this line as soon as possible as I expect it to be going up throughout the week.
