The Florida Atlantic Owls will travel to Apogee Stadium to take on the North Texas Mean Green this Thursday night in College Football action.

The Florida Atlantic Owls won their 2nd straight game and improved to 5-5 (3-3 C-USA) on the season after defeating the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, 34-15, this past Saturday. Florida Atlantic led by just a 10-9 margin at halftime however, scored 17 unanswered points to start off the 2nd half and had no trouble securing the victory after taking a 27-9 lead with 13:27 left in regulation. Florida Atlantic outgained Western Kentucky by a 576-351 margin however, did lose the turnover battle by a 2-1 margin. Leading the way for the Owls was RB Kerrith Whyte Jr. who had 163 rushing yards & 2 TD on 21 carries.

On the season, Florida Atlantic is averaging 31.1 ppg on 476.5 total yards per game (224.5 passing yds/g; 252.0 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Florida Atlantic has been led by the RB duo of Devin Singletary (21.5 att/g; 116.9 yds/g; 20 TD) & Kerrith Whyte (10.7 att/g; 76.5 yds/g; 7 TD). QB Chris Robinson has completed 64.0% of his passes for 8 TD & 10 INT while averaging 196.6 passing yds/g. The top receivers for the Owls have been Jovon Durante (5.8 rec/g; 77.2 yds/g; 4 TD), Harrison Bryant (3.4 rec/g; 43.8 yds/g; 3 TD), and Willie Wright (4.1 rec/g; 42.5 yds/g; 2 TD).

Defensively, Florida Atlantic is allowing 31.3 ppg on 415.0 total yards per game (244.7 passing yds/g; 170.3 rushing yds/g).

The North Texas Mean Green dropped to 7-3 (3-3 C-USA) on the season after being defeated by the Old Dominion Monarchs, 34-31, this past Saturday. North Texas led by 28-0 margin late in the 2nd quarter, however the offense stalled in the 2nd half and the Mean Green allowed the Monarchs to score 17 unanswered points to close out the game and secure the come from behind victory. North Texas outgained Old Dominion by a 395-359 margin however, lost the turnover battle by a 2-1 margin. Leading the way for the Mean Green was DeAndre Torrey who had 145 rushing yards & 2 TD’s on 25 carries.

On the season, North Texas is averaging 37.2 ppg on 464.7 total yards per game (317.2 passing yds/g; 147.5 rushing yds/g). Offensively, North Texas has been led by QB Mason Fine who has completed 63.7% of his passes for 23 TD & 2 INT while averaging 311.9 passing yds/g. The top receivers for Fine and the Mean Green have been Rico Bussey Jr. (6.1 rec/g; 90.4 yds/g; 12 TD), Jalen Guyton (4.1 rec/g; 56.2 yds/g; 4 TD), and Jaelon Darden (4.0 rec/g; 54.6 yds/g; 4 TD). Leading the way for the Mean Green backfield has been DeAndre Torrey who has 12 rushing TD’s on the season while averaging 60.3 rushing yds/g on 12.0 att/g.

Defensively, North Texas is holding their opponents to average 20.3 ppg on 342.5 total yards per game (239.0 passing yds/g; 103.5 rushing yds/g).

The Owls are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in November and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game. The Mean Green are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 Thursday games however, just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall.

FAU has looked more like the team we were expecting at the start of the season over the past two weeks however, I think their going to have trouble establishing that solid ground game against a North Texas team that ranks 12th in CFB in rushing defense. North Texas has been solid at home this and as Mason Fine should be able to put some points on the Owls defense, I’m taking North Texas to cover this small home spread.
