Once the Notre Dame Fighting Irish finish their season in either the Orange Bowl or the college football championship, quarterback Brandon Wimbush is expected to transfer. Wimbush lost his starting job to Ian Book, and it looks like he’ll finish his career with 2,606 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Wimbush will leave the Irish as a graduate transfer, so he’ll be eligible to play immediately wherever he ends up.

Here are five schools that could end up with Wimbush in 2019.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights - A lot of transfers simply want to spend their last year or two happy and aren’t as concerned with being on the big stage. Wimbush would be going back home with a transfer to Rutgers, as he’s from Teaneck, New Jersey, which is less than an hour away from New Brunswick. Wimbush will be able to spend his last season playing in front of friends and family, while enjoying some of that home cooking. Artur Sitkowski was supposed to be the man for Rutgers, but he ended his freshman season completing 49.1 percent of his passes with four touchdown passes and 18 interceptions. Wimbush would likely be the starter right away and would probably be the most comfortable.

Penn State Nittany Lions - Wimbush was originally a Penn State commitment but later backed out due to a potential logjam at the quarterback position. Wimbush didn’t want to compete with Trace McSorley and Michael O'Connor for playing time. Well, McSorley is gone, leaving a hole at the QB position for coach James Franklin to fill. Wimbush would be the instant favorite to quarterback the Nittany Lions, and he already has relationships with a lot of the coaches in Happy Valley. Going back to PSU would be a neat story for Wimbush.

Ohio State Buckeyes - The Ohio State Buckeyes have already been linked to Georgia quarterback Justin Fields and appear to be the early favorites for his services. If things don’t pan out there, you can expect Ohio State to circle the wagons and look at a quarterback such as Wimbush. New head coach Ryan Day helped turn Dwayne Haskins into a Heisman candidate, and the Buckeyes are obviously national title contenders every year. Wimbush also visited Ohio State multiple times and was recruited heavily by Urban Meyer and Ed Warinner. If Wimbush wants to join another powerhouse program and a chance to compete for the ultimate hardware, Ohio State is an intriguing option.

Miami Hurricanes - The Miami Hurricanes were supposed to be title contenders this season, but things didn’t work out due to inconsistency at the quarterback position. Malik Rosier is gone after another shaky season and N'Kosi Perry was often hit or miss when he saw the field. Wimbush would have a clear edge to be the starting quarterback in Miami, and it is a school he visited early in his recruiting process back in June of 2013 and February of 2014. Miami needs a shot in the arm with expectations not being met, Manny Diaz leaving for Temple and the fan base quickly turning on Mark Richt. This could be an intriguing option for both parties.

LSU Tigers - The LSU Tigers are consistently one of the worst passing teams in the country and it’s the one thing that prevents them from taking the next step and competing for national titles. Joe Burrow has proven he’s not the answer, the same way Danny Etling, Brandon Harris, Anthony Jennings and many others weren’t the needed difference makers. Wimbush could be the needed splash that puts LSU in serious title conversations, as the Tigers need a passing game to go with their ground game and elite defense. LSU extended its offer to Wimbush back in February of 2014. Wimbush and LSU could be a match that produces magic in 2019.
