The LSU Tigers come into the 2020 season fresh off of their first college football championship since 2011 and the first undefeated season for the program since 1958 as well as a 4th winning season in 4 tries under Ed Orgeron.

2020’s squad will be undergoing a retooling as with great success in the college ranks comes a lot of turnover as players go pro, but it’s still an exciting time in Baton Rouge and hopes are high for the Tigers coming into this season. Let’s take a look at LSU’s schedule for the 2020 season.

Saturday Sept. 5 vs. UTSA

Saturday Sept. 12 vs. Texas

Saturday Sept. 19 vs. Rice (at NRG Stadium in Houston, TX)

Saturday Sept. 26 vs. Ole Miss

Saturday Oct. 3 vs. Nicholls State

Saturday Oct. 10 at Florida

Saturday Oct. 17 at Arkansas

Saturday Oct. 24 vs. Mississippi State

Saturday Nov. 7 vs. Alabama

Saturday Nov. 14 vs. South Carolina

Saturday Nov. 21 at Auburn

Saturday Nov. 28 at Texas A&M

The elephant in the room for LSU like we mentioned in the open will be rebuilding with so much starting talent from last year’s championship team gone. At the top of the list are QB Joe Burrow, RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, WR Justin Jefferson and four of the five starting offensive linemen from the championship offense. Defensively, the Tigers lose K’Lavon Chaisson, Patrick Queen, Grant Delpit and Jacob Phillips all to the NFL, breaking up the defense that was 31st in the country in total yardage last season, despite facing seven top-10 opponents last season.

The good news for LSU is that there are still pieces that can fit in right away for the Tigers, as Myles Brennan prepares to stand in at QB after throwing for 353 yards on 24 of 40 passing in 10 appearances last season. Bo Pelini is being brought in for his 2nd stint as LSU defensive coordinator, a position he held in Baton Rouge from 2005-07. Former top recruits like Marcel Brooks and Donte Starks will be ready to earn their spot on the starting defense and push to be a key cog in the new defensive unit in Death Valley.

The total for LSU in 2020 is set at 9, and just looking at the schedule alone, I’m not overly high on LSU’s chances. Fading the defending champion isn’t a popular choice most years, but like I said earlier, the returning production for LSU isn’t all that promising. And if we look at the schedule, games against UTSA, Rice, Nichols State and Arkansas are most likely wins. Ole Miss and possibly Mississippi State and South Carolina make it 7, but even at home, Texas will battle, Alabama will be out for blood after last year, and road games against Florida and back-to-back Auburn and Texas A&M to finish the year, we could be looking at 5 losses for LSU. I just see this being an 8-4 season at best, so it’ll be the under that I take for LSU this season.
