The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns are set to try for another double-digit-win college football season in 2020, and a Sun Belt championship if all goes well.

All things considered, Louisiana had a great football campaign in 2019, but there were a couple of missed opportunities. The Cajuns went 11-3 overall and won the LendingTree Bowl 27-17 against Miami (OH), but previously fell to Appalachian State 45-38 in the Sun Belt Championship Game. This season, Louisiana will look to get back to double-digit wins and bring home a conference title this time. Check back all season long for free college football picks and college football predictions at Sports Chat Place.

Let’s take a closer look at Louisiana’s current status and break down their chances at hitting 11 victories once again.

The Cajuns have now been to the Sun Belt Championship Game in consecutive years, losing in both. Appalachian State has been the conference thorn in Louisiana’s side during that time, and it’s looking like we’ll see another showdown in the 2020 standings. The Cajuns have plenty to build on from last season, as a season-opening loss to Mississippi State was their only blemish outside of a pair of losses to App State.

This season, Billy Napier slots in for his third year as head coach, joined by Rob Sale at OC, also in his third year. Patrick Toney will move to DC duties for his first season in that role. That stability in the coaching staff could give Louisiana an edge over App State (who has had three different head coaches in three seasons) in 2020. Also returning to the Cajuns are QB Levi Lewis and RBs Elijah Mitchell and Trey Ragas. That trio, along with a healthy dose of top tacklers from last season on defense, should help Louisiana maintain form from 2019.

One other thing going the Cajuns’ way this year is the schedule; it’s really not that bad. Louisiana is a multi-score favorite in most of them, and in the two tougher-looking games (at Appalachian State and at Missouri), Louisiana is the underdog by a score or less. Long story short, the Cajuns should be highly competitive this season. If they play to capabilities, Louisiana will be racking up a ton of wins from the get-go.

Pick: I feel slightly better on the over here. Sure, I could be a pessimist, assume something will go wrong or a key player will be injured, and take the under. That said, looking at Louisiana’s schedule there aren’t a lot of places I would pencil in losses on paper. The team should be strong once again this year, and I think it’s finally time for the Cajuns to bag that elusive Sun Belt Championship in 2020.
