The Ohio Bobcats are projected to be competitive in the MAC and beyond during the 2020 college football season.

Ohio had a pretty solid football season in 2019. The Bobcats finished 7-6 overall and 5-3 in MAC play, earning an invite to the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl where they took out Nevada 30-21. Ohio is projected to be fighting for the East Division title this season, and if all goes well the Bobcats will take home another bowl win for their efforts. Check back all season long for free college football picks and college football predictions at Sports Chat Place.

Let’s take a closer look at Ohio’s current status and break down their chances at hitting nine victories this season.

The Bobcats finished in second place in the East last season, just behind Miami-OH. That was a bit of a disappointment, as Ohio was projected to take the division prior to the season. There were some rough stretches in the Bobcats’ campaign; they were just 2-4 at one point. The good news is that Ohio was competitive in most of their losses and posted a couple of dominant offensive performances (a combined 118 points across two games) to close out the regular season. It just wasn't enough to take the division, a theme that's been common for Ohio lately.

Perennial head coaching fixture Frank Solich and OC Tim Albin return to the Ohio sideline this season, each in their 16th years. They’ve had some near-misses in the conference standings over the past several years and the pressure is on to finish first in the East Division in 2020. The good news is that Ohio is stacked with skill players and retains a ton of talent on defense as well. The coaching crew will have some work to do at quarterback with Nathan Rourke gone, but do have promise at the position in Drew Keszei and KJ Minter. If the Bobcats can get some production from that spot and turn in a strong defensive effort the sky’s the limit.

There are nine potential victories on the schedule for Buffalo this year, but that number may be a little difficult to hit. There’s a tricky road game at Boston College in the second outing, and also a few tough MAC teams like Buffalo and Toledo on the slate. Provided Ohio can navigate through conference play adequately, they’ll be right in the mix for the division title this season.

Pick: I’m going over, but just barely. Nine games is a lot, but the victories are there provided Ohio plays to their capabilities. The team will have some tinkering to do with the offense, but if the Bobcats can get it going early they have a great shot at taking a conference title in 2020. Finally.
