Breaking Down the Wisconsin Badgers Win Total
2020 College Football Season
Wisconsin Badgers: 9.5 Wins -- Title Odds: 50/1 Click to Get Latest Betting Odds
The Wisconsin Badgers will be looking to do some major damage in the Big Ten during this college football season.
Wisconsin put up a strong—but ultimately disappointing—football campaign in 2019. The Badgers finished 10-4 overall with a 7-2 Big Ten record, winning the West Division. Things went south after that for Wisconsin, with losses in the Big Ten Championship game to Ohio State 34-21 and the Rose Bowl to Oregon 28-27. In 2020, the Badgers will look to recapture the West Division and win a conference championship. Let’s take a closer look at Wisconsin’s current status and break down their chances at hitting 10 wins again this season.
Wisconsin was dominant right out of the gate in 2019, rolling through six straight victories—one against No. 11-ranked Michigan. The Badgers tripped up at Illinois with a painful 24-23 loss, then fell to Ohio State the next week 38-7. With four victories in their final four regular-season games however, Wisconsin finished up strong heading into the Big Ten Championship Game against one of the top schools in the country. The end result wasn’t what they wanted obviously, but it was still a strong season for the Badgers.
On to 2020, and head coach Paul Chryst enters his sixth season at the helm. There’s some turnover here as usual, and we’ll see new faces in key roles, but Wisconsin has a great system in place and should be able to slot guys in. The offense is going to be important for the Badgers once again in 2020; last season they finished second in the conference in total offense and tops in the nation in time of possession. With Jack Coan back behind a powerful offensive line, if Wisconsin can key in on a couple of big-play ball carriers the team could do some amazing things.
There are a few tricky spots on the schedule, and the Badgers are going to have to stay steady all season long in order to navigate them. Indiana and Appalachian State should field strong teams, then there’s a stretch of Michigan, Notre Dame and Minnesota just before the bye. The Badgers will have a rematch against Illinois on Halloween, and there are two big games against Nebraska and at Iowa to close out the season.
Pick: I like the over. I’m pretty high on Wisconsin this year. I don’t think the team will have too many issues reloading on offense, and we should see another potent unit there. So long as the Badgers can come out of the 2020 gate strong and avoid tripping up too badly in the games before the bye, I think they’ve got a pretty decent shot at double-digit wins.
