Breaking Down the Cincinnati Bearcats Win Total
2020 College Football Season
Cincinnati Bearcats: 8.5 Wins -- Title Odds: 150/1
The Cincinnati Bearcats look to lift their program to the next level in the 2020 college football season.
Cincinnati posted a bittersweet and nearly-brilliant football season in 2019. The Bearcats finished at 11-3 overall and 7-1 in the AAC but lost the conference title game to Memphis 29-24. On an invite to the Birmingham Bowl, Cincinnati ended the campaign on a high note with a 38-6 blowout of Boston College, however. In 2020, Cincinnati is projected to be a very good team once again and they’ll most certainly be in the mix for the conference title. Let’s take a closer look at Cincinnati’s current status and break down their chances at hitting nine victories this season.
Cincinnati suffered a rough 42-0 blowout loss to a strong Ohio State team in their second game last season, but still opened up nicely with a 10-1 start. The Bearcats then took back-to-back losses against Memphis (the second being the American Championship) that derailed their quest to win the conference, but all in all it was a solid effort in a pretty tricky division. It was also Cincinnati’s second consecutive 11-win season.
Moving on to 2020, head coach Luke Fickell is back on the Cincinnati sideline in his fourth year along with OC Mike Denbrock and DC Marcus Freeman. That crew gets QB Desmon Ridder returning this season, but in order to field a strong running game once again they’ll have to find a replacement for RB Michael Warren. We’re probably looking at increased roles for senior Gerrid Doaks and transfer Jerome Ford, who should give the Bearcats plenty of juice to carry on that impressive rush.
Looking at the 2020 schedule, Cincinnati is going to have to be on point for most of the year in order to hit that nine-win mark. Things will really get going at the end of September with a tough road trip to Nebraska, which is amid four road games in five dates. The rematch with Memphis comes on Halloween, and there’s an intimidating trip to UCF later in November which will be huge.
Pick: I like the over better. I think Cincinnati has a realistic chance at hitting nine or ten wins this season, even if they do drop a couple of the tougher-looking games. Getting to the top of the division again is going to be difficult, as teams like UCF and Temple both come on the road, and both late in the season. That pair of outings will likely go a long way in determining who goes to the AAC Championship, and Cincinnati has a great shot at being that team.
