Breaking Down The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Win Total For The 2020 Season
2020 College Football Season
Over/Under: 4.5 Wins -- Odds to Win National Title: +100000
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleeers look to make some strides forward in 2020.
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers enter the 2020 college football season looking for their first non-losing season since joining FBS in 2017 after finishing at 5-7 for the second straight year. The Sun Belt has grown into one of the tougher non-power 5 conferences in the country, so coach Jamey Chadwell has his work cut out for him as the Chants look to take a step forward in 2020. Let’s take a look at Coastal Carolina’s schedule for the 2020 college football season.
Saturday, Sept. 5 at South Carolina
Saturday, Sept. 12 at Eastern Michigan
Saturday, Sept. 19 vs. Duquesne
Saturday, Sept. 26 vs. Kansas
Saturday, Oct. 3 vs. Arkansas State
Saturday, Oct. 17 at Louisiana
Saturday Oct. 24 vs. Georgia Southern
Thursday Oct. 29 at Georgia State
Saturday Nov. 7 vs. South Alabama
Saturday Nov. 14 at Troy
Saturday Nov. 21 vs. Appalachian State
Saturday Nov. 28 at Texas State
The good news for the Chanticleers is that the bulk of their ground offense is back as CJ Marable returns after logging 1,085 yards and 11 TDs last year and there’s plenty of depth behind him with plenty of underclassmen in the rushing group as well as Shermari Jones who comes as a JUCO transfer from Independence CC. Jaivon Heligh and Isaiah Likely remain the top targets for either Bryce Carpenter or Fred Payton, whoever gets the start at quarterback for Coastal. On defense, the Chanticleers bring back eight starters including Tarron Jackson and CJ Brewer up front while leading tackler Teddy Gallagher is back in the linebacking group for the Chants. This could be the best defense that the Chanticleers have had since becoming an FBS program, and it will have to be after allowing 30+ points seven times last year, losing six of those games.
The win total for Coastal Carolina is set at 4.5, and to be honest, it’s tough for me to envision Coastal Carolina even getting back to five wins for a third straight year, and it’s a shame for a Chanticleers team that probably deserves a better chance at succeeding. The Chants should win against Duquesne, and Coastal has a chance against Eastern Michigan and Kansas, but even if they come out of it at 2-2, their first four conference games come against conference opponents that played in bowl games last season. The Chants will get a couple of conference wins and ultimately I do see Coastal finishing at five wins so I’ll take the over 4.5 wins and hope that maybe the Chants get a sixth win for their first bowl game.
