The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Florida State Seminoles face off in ACC college football action on Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium. Georgia Tech and Florida State last faced off in 2015 when the Yellow Jackets won 22-16.
Florida State Seminoles didn’t have the most success during the 2019 season but they did manage to win five games. This offseason Florida State brought in former Memphis coach Mike Norvell and the hope is he can bring the team back to glory. The Seminoles averaged 27.9 points per game on offense and will bring back quarterback James Blackmon who threw for 17 touchdowns and 2,339 yards last season. Out wide Blackmon will have his two favorite targets back.
On defense this is a talented squad and in this game there is no reason to believe they shouldn’t be able to slow down the Yellow Jackets, and if they weren’t able to that would be a big disappointment.
On the other side of this matchup is the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets who are still trying to transition away from the option offense and everyone knew that could take a while, and last season there were some issues with the offense. Last season the Yellow Jackets offense averaged only 16.7 points per game and they had some real issues moving the ball. Even though there were some growing pains on offense last season, they will get back quarterback James Graham who was a freshman last year and gained some valuable experience. Graham threw for 1,164 yards and 12 touchdowns.
On defense Georgia Tech had some major issues giving up 32.4 points per game which was 104th of 130 teams. In this game, the Yellow Jackets need to get out to a fast start, and not fall behind because the offense isn’t built to crawl out of big holes.
The over is 7-1-1 in the Yellow Jackets last nine road games. Georgia Tech is 1-7 against the spread in their last eight games in September. The Yellow Jackets are 3-12 in their last 15 games overall. The under is 7-3 in Florida State’s last ten games overall.
Florida State might not win the National Title this game, but they are still the much better team in this matchup. Look for the Yellow Jackets offense to struggle again and that will lead to Florida State winning this game and covering the spread.
