The Tulsa Golden Hurricane and Oklahoma State Cowboys meet Saturday in college football action at Boone Pickens Stadium.
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane are coming off a four-win season and went 2-4 on the road. The Tulsa Golden Hurricane averaged 25.9 points per game and 419.7 yards while allowing an average of 31.3 points and 394.8 yards per game. Zach Smith returns at quarterback after throwing for 3,200 yards and 19 touchdowns while completing 57.3 percent of his passes. Shamari Brooks returns after 1,000 rushing yards and six touchdowns, while Keylon Stokes returns as a 1,000-yard receiver who also had six receiving touchdowns. Tulsa has a chance to be one of the better offenses in the country this season. Defensively, Zaven Collins returns after 97 tackles, Tyarise Stevenson had one sack and Jaxon Player had seven tackles for loss.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys won eight games last season and went 4-2 at home. The Oklahoma State Cowboys averaged 32.5 points per game and 453.9 yards while allowing an average of 26.8 points and 380.8 yards per game. Spencer Sanders returns at quarterback after throwing for 2,000 yards and 16 touchdowns while completing 62.8 percent of his passes. Chuba Hubbard returns at running back after rushing for 2,000 yards and 21 touchdowns, while Tylan Wallace and Dillon Stoner while combined for 1,500 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. Defensively, Malcolm Rodriguez is back after 103 tackles, Amen Ogbongbemiga had five sacks and Kolby Harvell-Peel had five interceptions. Oklahoma State returns the bulk of last years roster and should like its chances to make a serious run in the Big 12 this season.
Will update with trends once they're released.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys are a legit Big 12 contender with all the returning talent they have and should be big favorites to win this game. However, this is a ton of points to lay in a season opener when no team has had a proper training camp. The Tulsa Golden Hurricane also hung around with Oklahoma State last year while taking a ranked SMU team to overtime. Tulsa is not your traditional season opener cupcake, and they have an offense that can give Oklahoma State a run for its money. This game has a chance to be more competitive than most would think.
Give me Tulsa and the points.
