The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and the Georgia State Panthers meet Saturday in college football action from Turner Field.
Louisiana started out the year with a solid road victory this past weekend, taking out Iowa State 31-14. The Cajuns have won their last three games dating back to last season. As for Georgia State, this will be their first outing of the year. The Panthers went 7-6 in 2019 with a 4-4 record in the Sun Belt Conference. Georgia State made it to the Arizona Bowl, where they lost to Wyoming 38-17. Check back all season long for free college football picks and college football predictions at Sports Chat Place.
Louisiana is coming off a pretty strong season in 2019. The Cajuns went 11-3 overall and 7-1 in Sun Belt play for a West Division title. Louisiana lost the Sun Belt Championship Game 45-38 to their nemesis Appalachian State, but had a nice bounce-back effort versus Miami (OH) in the LendingTree Bowl with a 27-17 victory.
The Ragin’ Cajuns got off to a nice start in their first game, taking out Iowa State 31-14. Quarterback Levi Lewis went 13-for-21 with 154 yards and a TD. Tops in rushing for Louisiana in that one was Trey Ragas with 14 carries for 49 yards and a touchdown, while Peter Leblanc had five catches for 82 yards and a score.
Over on the Georgia State side, they got off to a nice start last season with a 6-2 record in their first eight outings. The Panthers stumbled after that however, winning just one of their final five games. In the last pair versus Georgia Southern and Wyoming (in the Arizona Bowl), the Panthers were outscored 76-27 and couldn’t find answers on either side of the ball.
This season, Georgia State goes into their fourth year under head coach Shawn Elliott. He’s joined once again by offensive coordinator Brad Glenn in his second season and defensive coordinator Nate Fuqua in his fourth year.
The Cajuns are 6-0 ATS in their last six games in September and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games as a road favorite. Louisiana is 10-4 ATS in their last 14 road games and 18-8 ATS in their last 26 games overall.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games on turf and 5-13-2 ATS in their last 20 conference games. Georgia State is 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall and 1-4-2 ATS in their last seven games in September.
Pick: I’m probably going to stick with Louisiana here. The Cajuns should be a strong team once again in 2020. Though they were outscored 14-10 in the first half of their opening game, Louisiana posted 21 unanswered points in the second half and found a nice rhythm. I think there’s another nice offensive effort in store here for the Cajuns.
