The South Florida Bulls and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish meet Saturday in college football action from Notre Dame Stadium.
USF started out their 2020 campaign on a high note, taking out the Citadel by a score of 27-6 for a Week 1 win. As for Notre Dame, they were also able to get a win in their opening game, beating Duke 27-13 this past weekend. South Florida had a difficult campaign in 2019, going just 4-8 overall and 2-6 in the American Athletic Conference. That left theBulls in fourth place in the East Division and out of a bowl game. Head coach Charlie Strong was let go in December with a three-year record of 21-16. USF’s first game of the 2020 year went pretty well. Quarterback Jordan McCloud threw for 68 yards and a TD in the 27-6 victory over the Bulldogs, and Kelly Joiner led the rush with 87 yards and a score from eight carries. Bryce Miller was the top receiver in that one with 36 yards on three catches.
Over on the Notre Dame side, they posted an 11-2 record last year and at one point were ranked as high as No. 7 in the country. The Fighting Irish earned an invite to the Camping World Bowl, where they dispatched Iowa State 33-9 in a dominant outing.
The Irish looked pretty solid in their 2020 debut with the 27-13 win over Duke. Quarterback Ian Book put up 263 yards with a touchdown and an interception in that one, and Kyren Williams had a great day rushing on 112 yards and two scores. Williams also led the team in receiving, posting two catches for 93 yards.
The Bulls are 4-0 ATS in their last four non-conference games and 5-1 ATS in their last six versus the ACC. USF is 19-9 ATS in their last 28 games as a road underdog and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games as an underdog.
Meanwhile, the Irish are 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last six games as a favorite. Notre Dame is 5-2 ATS in their last seven games in September and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games.
Pick: I’m going to stick with Notre Dame here. The Fighting Irish managed a nice effort across the board in their opening game, and Williams was all over the place for the offense. We should see Notre Dame try to replicate that steady rushing attack supported by shots down the field to keep the defense honest. USF will likely keep it close initially but I think this one is all Notre Dame.
