The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Syracuse Orange meet in an ACC college football matchup from the Carrier Dome on Saturday.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets come into this one looking to bounce back after a 49-21 loss to UCF in their last game. Jeff Sims has thrown for 521 yards, 2 touchdowns and 4 interceptions on 59.2% passing while also leading the Yellow Jackets with 146 rushing yards and a touchdown. Jamious Griffin has 86 rushing yards while Jahmyr Gibbs has 66 rushing yards with a touchdown and Jordan Mason has a touchdown as well. Jalen Camp leads Georgia Tech’s receivers with 7 grabs for 84 yards and Marquez Ezzard has 78 receiving yards while Malachi Carter has 7 grabs for 77 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Quez Jackson has 11 solo tackles as part of his team-high 18 solo tackles with an interception. David Curry has 14 total tackles with a sack. Charlie Thomas and Curtis Ryans each have two sacks as well this year.
The Syracuse Orange will look to bounce back from losses in each of their first two games to start the year after a 21-10 loss to Pittsburgh last time out. So far this season, Tommy DeVito has thrown for 144 yards and an interception on 47.8% passing while being sacked 14 times this season. Rex Culpepper has thrown for 110 yards in relief on 43.8% passing this year. Jahwar Jordan leads the Orange with 66 rushing yards while Taj Harris has a team-high 8 catches for 136 receiving yards and Syracuse’s lone receiving TD this season. Defensively, Geoff Cantin-Arku and Garrett Williams each have a team-high 15 total tackles, with Cantin-Arku logging 12 solo tackles while Williams has 11 solo tackles. Mikel Jones also has a pair of interceptions and Josh Black has two sacks.
Georgia Tech is 4-13 ATS in their last 17 games overall and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a win while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games following a loss. Syracuse is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 conference games.
Points with a home dog are usually worth a look, but Syracuse has been exceptionally bad to start the year. Sometimes there are overreactions to the first couple of weeks of the year and laying a touchdown with Georgia Tech may feel like that on the surface, but Georgia Tech’s been alright defensively even in giving up 49 to UCF, and Syracuse can’t protect their QBs to save their life, as Tommy DeVito’s been sacked 14 times through two games, already at 40% of the 35 sacks he got up from last season. I just think this is a good spot for the Yellow Jackets who have played above expectations through two games and simply look like the better team here. I’ll lay the points with Georgia Tech in what should be a double-digit win, somewhere in the area of 24-14 or 28-17 or somewhere in between.
