The Georgia State Panthers and the Charlotte 49ers meet in college football action from Jerry Richardson Stadium on Saturday afternoon. THIS GAME HAS BEEN POSTPONED
The Georgia State Panthers will look to rebound from a season-opening 34-31 loss to the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns in their last outing. Cornelious Brown threw for 196 yards, a touchdown and an interception on 22 of 39 passing while also rushing for 64 yards and a touchdown. Destin Coates had 150 rushing yards on 34 carries with a touchdown to lead GSU in that regard while Roger Carter had a team-high 53 receiving yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Antavious Lane had a team-high 9 total tackles with 8 solo tackles while Blake Carroll has 8 total tackles with 6 solo tackles and Quavian Ware added 7 solo tackles. Dontae Wilson also had a pair of tackles for a loss in the losing effort for the Panthers.
The Charlotte 49ers will look to get into the win column, sitting at 0-1 after having their last game against UNC postponed following a 35-20 loss to Appalachian State last time out. In the game against App State, Chris Reynolds threw for 140 yards and two picks on 11 of 30 passing while Tre Harbison had a team-high 87 rushing yards and a touchdown. Taylor Thompson added a team-high 62 receiving yards. Defensively, Ben DeLuca had 16 total tackles while Tyler Murray had 14 total tackles and a team-high two fumble recoveries. Luke Martin had 11 total tackles while Nafees Lyon had 10 total tackles and a pair of tackles for a loss as well as a fumble recovery in the loss.
Georgia State is 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games and 2-10-2 ATS in their last 14 road games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against C-USA. Charlotte is 12-5 ATS in their last 17 home games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games as an underdog.
Both of these teams had respectable first outings in defeat, and Charlotte has been getting the benefit of an extra week’s worth of rest, but it’s at a cost as multiple players have had to deal with potential COVID contact. With that said, I think Georgia State was the more impressive of the two as it is, and you have to wonder the true fitness of these affected linemen for Charlotte if they did in fact have to fight a bout of COVID. I think Georgia State’s the better team here so I’ll lay the points with Georgia State in this one.
