The Campbell Fighting Camels and the Appalachian State Mountaineers meet Saturday in college football action from Kidd Brewer Stadium.
Campbell enters this one at 0-2 on the young 2020 season. The Camels took a tough loss in their opener 27-26 to Georgia Southern, then fell to Coastal Carolina 43-21 last week. As for the Mountaineers, they’re 1-1 so far. Appalachian State took a 35-20 win over Charlotte in Week 1, but then fell in a relative shocker to Marshall 17-7. The Camels were in control for most of the game in the opener versus Georgia Southern, and had a 20-13 lead going into the fourth quarter. Campbell was outscored 14-6 in the final frame however, and ended up with a one-point loss. Camels quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams threw for 237 yards and two scores there, and also led the rush with 73 yards and a TD.
The Camels’ game last week versus a pretty good Coastal Carolina team didn’t go very well either. Campbell gave up points in every quarter, and couldn’t get much going on ffense. Williams was 12-for-25 with 137 yards and an interception in that one, and CJ Freeman led the rush on 81 yards and a TD.
Over on the Appalachian State side, they opened up pretty well versus Charlotte in their opening game despite a tepid first quarter. Mountaineers QB Zac Thomas posted 204 yards with one TD and one interception in that one, and Marcus Williams topped the rushers on 117 yards and a score. Thomas Hennigan had five catches for 120 yards and a touchdown as well.
The Mountaineers ran into some trouble last weekend versus Marshall in the loss, scoring just one first-quarter touchdown and getting blanked the rest of the way. Thomas posted 268 yards with a TD and an INT in that one, and Hennigan had 88 yards on five catches. Camerun Peoples led the rush on 57 yards from 12 carries.

Pick: I’m tentatively going with Appalachian State here, but it’s a tough one. The Mountaineers looked flat last weekend versus the Thundering Herd, and couldn’t find the end zone despite some overall decent offensive numbers. Campbell does have scoring capability enough to keep up here, but if the Mountaineers play like they should, App State will take the cover.
