The Oklahoma Sooners and the Iowa State Cyclones meet Saturday in college football action from Jack Trice Stadium.
Oklahoma enters this one at 1-1 on the season. The Sooners took out Missouri State 48-0 in the opener, but were shocked by Kansas State 38-35 this past weekend. As for Iowa State, they’re 1-1 as well. The Cyclones fell to Louisiana 31-14 in Week 1 but got a victory over TCU last Saturday 37-34. The Sooners didn’t have any trouble versus Missouri State in the opener, jumping out to a 31-0 lead after the first quarter. Quarterback Spencer Rattler posted 290 yards and four scores for Oklahoma, while Charleston Rambo had 80 yards and two scores off four catches. Seth McGowan led the rush there with 61 yards and a TD.
Week 2 was a different story for Oklahoma though, as the team blew a 35-21 fourth quarter lead. Rattler had 387 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions in that one, while McGowan posted 73 yards and a TD. Drake Stoops led the receivers there with 93 yards and a score off three grabs.
Over on the Iowa State side, they had a 14-10 lead on Louisiana in Week 1 at halftime, but didn’t score the rest of the way. Cyclones QB Brock Purdy posted 145 yards and an interception in that game, and Breece Hall led the rush with 103 yards and a TD. Xavier Hutchinson led the receivers in that game with four catches for 43 yards.
In Week 2 the Cyclones were able to power out a tense three-point victory. Purdy had 211 yards and a score, but Hall did the heavy lifting with 154 rush yards and three scores off 18 carries. Landen Akersn had two catches for 60 yards as well.
The Sooners are 3-7 ATS versus a team with a losing record and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games as a favorite. Oklahoma is 2-7 ATS in their last nine games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last five as a road favorite.
Meanwhile, the Cyclones are 5-1 ATS in their last six games as a home underdog and 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 games as an underdog. Iowa State is 23-8-2 ATS in their last 33 in October and 15-6 in their last 21 after a straight-up loss.
Pick: I’m going Sooners. Iowa State has been fairly effective offensively so far in the limited sample size, and the team will likely want to lean on the run game. Thing is, the Cyclones have allowed 65 points across two games, and they’ll have to fire away to keep up with Oklahoma. I think the Sooners will take out some frustrations here and get their groove back with a big win.
