The Auburn Tigers and the Georgia Bulldogs meet in another installment of the Deep South’s oldest rivalry from Sanford Stadium on Saturday night.
The Auburn Tigers will look to build on their 29-13 win over Kentucky from their season opener last time out. Bo Nix threw for 233 yards and 3 touchdowns on 16 of 27 passing while also leading Auburn in rushing with 34 rushing yards and D.J. Williams has a rushing touchdown. Seth Williams had a team-high 6 grabs for 112 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Eli Stove had 4 grabs for 55 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, K.J. Britt led the Tigers on defense with 11 total tackles while Smoke Monday had 10 tackles and a team-high 7 solo tackles. Roger McCreary also had an interception for Auburn in the win.
The Georgia Bulldogs will look to build off of a 37-10 win over Arkansas to kick off their season last time out. Stetson Bennett threw for 211 yards and two touchdowns on 20 of 29 passing while D’Wan Mathis had an interception and 55 yards on 8 of 17 passing. Zamir White led the Bulldogs with 71 rushing yards and a touchdown on 13 carries while Kearis Jackson led the Dawgs with 6 catches for 62 yards. George Pickens added 4 grabs for 47 yards and a score while John FitzPatrick had a touchdown grab as well. Defensively, Nakoba Dean had a team-high 7 total tackles while Nolan Smith and Lewis Cine each had 6 total tackles with Smith recording 1.5 sacks. Richard LeComte had a pair of interceptions and Eric Stokes had a 30-yard pick-six for Georgia as well.
Auburn is 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games overall and 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 games in October while the under is 13-4 in their last 17 games as an underdog. Georgia is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 conference games while the under is 7-0 in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record. Auburn is 1-6 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
Georgia was solid defensively against Arkansas, as they allowed just three points over the final 50-plus minutes of the opener, but it was the lack of efficiency from the offense that was alarming. I said it to multiple people, I like the Bulldogs and have a close tie to that school, but I want nothing to do with Georgia from a betting standpoint until they figure out the quarterback situation. Auburn has an improving QB in Bo Nix and match up well enough with Georgia that Auburn can keep this one close. I’ll take a shot with Auburn and the points here.
