The UTSA Roadrunners and the BYU Cougars meet in college football action from LaVell Edwards Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The UTSA Roadrunners will look to rebound from a 21-13 loss to UAB last time out, falling to 3-1 on the year. Frank Harris has thrown for 508 yards, 3 touchdowns and an interception on 66.3% passing while Josh Adkins has 233 yards passing with a touchdown on 55.2% passing. Sincere MicCormick has 527 rushing yards and 4 scores while the aforementioned Frank Harris has 162 yards with 5 touchdowns on the ground. Joshua Cephus has a team-high 22 grabs for 206 yards and 3 touchdowns while Brennon Dingle has 14 catches for 191 yards and Zakhari Franklin and Sheldon Jones each have 100+ receiving yards this season. Defensively, Rashad Wisdom has a team-high 33 total tackles with 18 solo tackles and a pair of interceptions while Jamal Ligon has 30 total tackles with 2.5 sacks on the year. Casey Mayfield Jr. has a pair of interceptions as well and Jaylon Haynes has 3 sacks.
The BYU Cougars will hope to build on their 3-0 start to the year after a 45-14 win voer Louisiana Tech last time up. Zach Wilson has thrown for 949 yards, 6 touchdowns and an interceptions on 83.3% passing while Tyler Allgeier has 275 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns and Lopini Katoa has 179 rushing yards with a pair of touchdowns. Gunner Romney leads BYU in receiving with 373 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns while Dax Milne has 264 receiving yards and Neil Pau’u has 125 receiving yards this season. Defensively, Keenan Pili has a team-high 19 total tackles while Tyler Batty has a team-high 4 sacks. Isaiah Kaufusi and Khyiris Tonga each have a pair of sacks.
UTSA is 5-16-1 ATS in their last 22 games on grass and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games following a loss. BYU is 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games against C-USA and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 home games against a team with a winning road record while the under is 8-3 in their last 11 games as a home favorite.
UTSA, even in defeat wasn’t terrible, the offense just couldn’t get going against a solid UAB defense. The problem now for UTSA is that BYU has been solid out of the gate, and one of the more underrated teams in the early going despite their top-25 ranking. Sure, wins over Navy and Louisiana Tech isn’t a whole lot on the surface, but the Cougars have outscored their opposition 148-24 this season and while UTSA’s had a decent run up to this point, I think the Roadrunners get smacked in the face with a reality check here thanks to BYU. Give me the Cougars in a rout.
