The UTEP Miners and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs meet in C-USA college football action from Joe Alliet Stadium on Saturday night.
The UTEP Miners will look to build on their 3-1 record after a 31-6 win over Louisiana-Monroe last time out. Gavin Hardison has thrown for 850 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions on 54.3% passing while Deion Hankins has rushed for 265 yards and 5 touchdowns. Josh Fields also has 152 rushing yards while Jacob Cowing leads UTEP’s receiving group with 22 catches for 377 yards and Justin Garrett has 19 catches for 287 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Stephen Forester leads the Miners with 25 total tackles while Tyrice Knight has 18 total tackles with 13 solo tackles and Justin Prince also has 18 total tackles for UTEP this season. Buron Lowe also has a pair of INTs for the Miners defense this season.
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will look to bounce back from a 45-14 beatdown loss to BYU in their last game, their first loss of the season. Luke Anthony has thrown for 654 yards, 10 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on 61.5% passing while Justin Henderson leads the Bulldogs with 175 rushing yards and a touchdown and Israel Tucker has 145 rushing yards as well for the Bulldogs this season. Smoke Harris leads the Bulldogs with 13 catches for 171 yards and 3 receiving touchdowns while Adrian Hardy has 148 receiving yards and Wayne Toussant and Griffin Hebert each have 100+ receiving yards and 2 touchdowns for Louisiana Tech this season. Defensively, Tyler Grubbs leads Louisiana Tech with 33 total tackles including a team-high 12 solo tackles while Milton Williams has a pair of sacks and Bee Jay Williamson and Deshon Hall each have an interception for Louisiana Tech this season.
UTEP is 16-33-2 ATS in their last 51 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog. Louisiana Tech is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games while the under is 7-1 in their last 8 games following a loss. UTEP is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams at Louisiana Tech.
This is a hard game to figure out as neither side has played tough opposition outside of getting blown out by their respective power team on the schedule so far. The difference for me is that UTEP, albeit winning the games, put up just 24 and 17 points against Stephen F. Austin and Abilene Christian and didn’t look overly convincing in either of those games. Louisiana Tech got crushed by BYU and allowed 38 points to Houston Baptist, but HBU also put up 33 against Texas Tech and the Bulldogs also pulled out a win against an offensively capable Southern Miss squad to open the year. I’m not a fan of having to lay this many points with Louisiana Tech, but this just feels like a game that the Bulldogs win by a score of 31-14 or something along those lines. I’ll lay the points with Louisiana Tech in a lean.
