The Florida State Seminoles and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish meet Saturday in college football action from Notre Dame Stadium.
Florida State enters this one at 1-2 so far. The Seminoles opened up with losses to Georgia Tech and Miami, but got a win last weekend over Jacksonville State. As for Notre Dame, they’re 2-0 this season. The Fighting Irish have recorded wins over Duke and South Florida in their first pair of games. The Seminoles began the season with a couple of tough games, losing 16-13 to a potentially talented Georgia Tech team and getting blown out 52-10 by the Miami juggernaut. The Jacksonville State game went much better for Florida State, as they recorded a dominant 41-24 win. Oddly enough, the Seminoles were down 14-0 after the first quarter in that one.
In the game three victory, Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis went 12-of-17 for 210 yards and a touchdown. Lawrance Toafili was the lead rusher with 99 yards and a TD, while Ontaria Wilson had seven catches for 86 yards.
Over on the Notre Dame side, there hasn’t been a ton of issues through the first couple of games. The Irish beat Duke 27-13 in the opener, posting a total of 441 offensive yards. The game against USF went even better in a 52-0 rout. Notre Dame managed 430 yards of offense in that one.
Notre Dame QB Ian Book didn’t have to do much in the win over USF, throwing for 144 yards. Book did record three rushing touchdowns however, and C’Bo Flemister led that crew with 127 yards and a score on 13 carries. Tops in receiving was Tommy Tremble with three catches for 61 yards.
The Seminoles are 2-5 ATS in their last seven conference games and 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 games overall. Florida State is 1-4 ATS in their last five games in October and 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games as an underdog.
Meanwhile, the Irish are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall and 6-1 ATS in their last seven as a favorite. Notre Dame is 8-3 ATS in the last 11 home games and 17-7 ATS in their last 24 games in October.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Notre Dame here. It took Florida State a few games to find their rhythm, as they posted just 23 points in their first two outings combined. The Seminoles played some good teams in those first two games, and they’ve got another one coming here. Notre Dame can beat opponents in a lot of different ways, and if the Seminoles can’t put a halt to the running game quickly they don’t have much of a chance at getting close on the scoreboard.
