The Georgia State Panthers and the Arkansas State Red Wolves meet in Sun Belt conference college football action from Centennial Bank Stadium on Thursday night.
The Georgia State Panthers will be looking to build on a 49-29 win over East Carolina last time out for their first win of the year. Cornelious Brown has thrown for 434 yards, 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions this season. Destin Coates has rushed for 263 yards and 3 touchdowns while Sam Pinckney leads the Panthers with 11 catches for 155 yards and 2 TDs. Defensively, Antavious Lane leads the Panthers with 14 total tackles including 12 solo tackles while Quavian White has 1.5 sacks and a pair of interceptions this year. Thomas Gore also has 1.5 sacks for GSU this season.
The Arkansas State Red Wolves will look to add to their 2-2 record after a 50-27 win over Central Arkansas last time out. Logan Bonner has thrown for 741 yards, 8 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on 63.7% passing while Layne Hatcher’s completed 58.6% of his passes for 564 yards, 6 touchdowns and a pick. Jamal Jones leads the Red Wolves with 212 rushing yards while Lincoln Pare has 157 rushing yards. Jonathan Adams Jr. has a team-high 25 catches for 362 yards and 5 touchdowns while Dahu green has 247 receiving yards and 3 receiving scores. Brandon Bowling, Roshauud Paul and Giles Amos each have 100+ receiving yards this season as well for A-State. Defensively, Elery Alexander has a team-high 27 total tackles with 20 solo tackles while Justin Rice has a team-high 22 solo tackles and 4 sacks.
Georgia State is 2-10-2 ATS in their last 14 road games and 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 17-6 in their last 23 games following a win. Arkansas State is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games as a favorite. The over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
I’m tempted by Georgia State and the points, but the problem for me is that the Panthers need more than a win over East Carolina which has proven to be a sieve defensively in recent years. The Panthers have been good over the last year or so, but Arkansas State’s been rock solid offensively and has the more impressive win of the two this season with their road win over Kansas State. The Red Wolves also have a history of owning Georgia State over the years since GSU joined the Sun Belt a few years ago. I think this is a game that the Red Wolves are more than capable of winning by a touchdown, so I’ll lay the points with Arkansas State in this one.
