The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns and the UAB Blazers meet in college football action from Legion Field on Friday night.
The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns will look to rebound from their 2-2 start after a 30-27 loss to Coastal Carolina last time out. Levi Lewis has thrown for 896 yards, 5 touchdowns and 4 interceptions on 57.9% passing while the tandem of Elijah Mitchell and Trey Ragas has rushed for 469 yards and 7 touchdowns combined this season. Chris Smith and the aforementioned Lewis each have 100+ rushing yards with Lewis racking up 103 rushing yards and a touchdown this year. Peter LeBlanc has 13 grabs for 200 yards and a touchdown while Kyren Lacy and Jalen Williams each have 100+ receiving yards and a touchdown for the Cajuns. Defensively, Lorenzo McCaskill has a team-high 44 total tackles with a pair of sacks and Ferrod Gardner has a pair of sacks as well.
The UAB Blazers will look to add to their current three-game winning streak after a 37-14 win over Western Kentucky last time out. Bryson Lucero has thrown for 793 yards, 7 touchdowns and 4 interceptions on 56.9% passing while Spencer Brown has rushed for 472 yards and 6 scores. DeWayne McBride has 226 rushing yards and a pair of rushing scores while Jermaine Brown Jr. has 180 rushing yards. Austin Watkins Jr. leads UAB with 26 catches for 356 yards and 3 scores while Myron Mitchell isn’t far behind with 24 grabs for 340 yards and 2 TDs and Hayden Pittman has 137 receiving yards for the Blazers. Gerrit Prince also has a team-high 4 touchdown receptions this season. Defensively, Noah Wilder has a team-high 32 total tackles including 18 solo tackles while Kristopher Moll has 30 total tackles with 22 solo tackles and Will Boler has 27 total tackles with 20 solo tackles. Jordan Smith also has a pair of sacks while Nikia Eason Jr. has 3 sacks and Fish McWilliams also has a pair of sacks for UAB.
Louisiana is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss. UAB is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games against the Sun Belt and 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 home games while the under is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games as a home underdog.
Free points with Louisiana are tempting as the Rajin Cajuns have look as solid as they come through their first few weeks. However, I see wonder if the group of Lewis, Mitchell and Ragas is truly 100% healthy coming into this one. UAB hasn’t been flashy, but they’ve been stifling teams in conference play with solid defense, holding their last three opponents to 14 points or less and I think this could be another defensive clinic for the Blazers. I’ll side with BYU on the money line here rather than take the free point.
