The FAU Owls and the Marshall Thundering Herd meet in C-USA week 8 college football action from Joan C. Edwards Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The FAU Owls will look to build on their lone win over Charlotte after yet another COVID postponement, this time with Southern Miss. Nick Tronti leads FAU with 98 passing yards and a pair of passing TDs on 11 of 22 passing while also leading the Owls with 94 rushing yards. T.J. Chase and Logan Peterson each have a receiving score with Chase logging 3 catches while LaJohntay Wester has 3 grabs as well. Defensively, Chase Lasater has a team-high 11 total tackles while Leighton McCarthy and Caliph Brice each have 10 total tackles with McCarthy logging 5 solo tackles and a team-high 3 sacks. Armani-Eli Adams also has a team-high 6 solo tackles.
The Marshall Thundering Herd comes into this one looking to build on their 4-0 record and top-25 ranking after a 35-17 win over Louisiana Tech last time out. Grant Wells has thrown for 859 yards, 6 touchdowns and two interceptions on 66% passing while Brenden Knox has 455 rushing yards and a team-high 7 touchdowns. Sheldon Evans and Knowledge McDaniel each have 100+ rushing yards this season. Broc Thompson leads Marshall with 14 catches for 228 receiving yards while Xavier Gaines and Talik Keaton each have 100+ receiving yards for the Herd this season. Defensively, Tavante Beckett leads Marshall with 34 total tackles including 14 solo tackles while Darius Hodge has a team-high 4 sacks.
FAU is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 road games and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 5-0-1 in their last 6 games as a home underdog. Marshall is 5-14 ATS in their last 19 home games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games as a favorite. The underdog is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
When you start to give up hooks on key numbers like 14 in football, the points are worth a look. However, I’m worried that there’s going to be a lot of rust with all of these constant postponements for FAU, and that the Owls are going to have a hard time gelling and getting into any sort of consistent rhythm. FAU skimmed by Charlotte, but Marshall’s been a beast so far this season, going not only 4-0 SU, but ATS as well and I just don’t feel like stepping in front of the Herd right now. I’ll lay the points with Marshall in this spot.
